Dear OP,
Yes it's bad to only drive short distances. No it won't destroy your car. As posted before moisture and fuel will not get evaporated out of the oil and condensation will stay in the exhaust causing it to rust faster.
Your car will last longer than the amount of time it will take those two factors to have an ill effect.
