Idea of potential problem with mounting 245/40R17 on17x9 never occurred to me, because this is one of most common combo for this car.

42 mm offset of the wheel is what I would be cautious about....

I also calculated a need for 13mm spacer in front for 17x9 with 245 tire.
Surprisingly there are no 13mm hubcentric spacers for Subaru available.
Really do not want to go sandwich of spacers route.

Yeah. It is already super tight at perch with 17x8 45mm and no spacer.
So 10mm spacer is less than 1/2” that 9in wheel will grow inboard relatively to 8in wheel.
Probably will have to dial back...
