The fuel pickup is at the bottom of the tank already . . . That, and with the amount of sloshing around fuel goes through during normal driving, if it's in there, it'll get pulled through - sooner...

Yikes - rebuilding a transmission with a new gear is vastly more complex than swapping the final drive gear in the diff.

In my experience, a few hundred rpm difference makes a lot less difference...
