A lot of it has to do with wheelbase and suspension too...

It's on purpose. They wanted it to be easily controllable for drifiting. More front-biased weight distribution + a long wheelbase = a lot of stability and time for correction.

Another interesting difference between the s-chassis cars and the 86 cars is that the s-chassis cars had a wider front track than rear track, whereas the 86 is the opposite. It has a wider rear track.
