Mine is still showroom new. Bought it on December 28, 2018 (2019 Model) and it currently has 4,367 milies. It still has the original battery which is kept on a battery tender.

From what I've read, unplugging the button breaks the circuit and gives the same result as depressing the button. The two contacts on the plug will have to be jumped to enable the trunk to be opened...
