Acura Precision Concept Previews A New Design Future For The Brand

Quote:

Acura’s dramatic Precision Concept made its world debut today at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show giving us a glimpse of the brand’s new design direction.

The four-door coupe that measures 204in (518,2cm) long, 84in (213cm) wide and 52in (132cm) tall, riding on a 122in (310cm) wheelbase, was penned under the direction of the company's director, Dave Marek, and created by the Acura's California Design Studio.

Perhaps one of the most notable styling features of the edgy looking study is that it waves goodbye to Acura’s much criticized and mocked ‘beak’ shield getting a newly formed five-point grille with an oversized logo resting in the center flanked by so-called ‘Jewel Constellation’ LED headlights.

Step inside and the Acura's digital human-machine interface (HMI) will scan you, selecting personalized features that include the performance settings, maps, audio and other functions. This is also where the ultra-wide, thin and curved center display is located, along with the head-up display, floating center meter, race-inspired steering wheel and the IDS (Integrated Dynamics System) controls.

"There is no more clear promise for the Acura brand than Precision Crafted Performance," said Jon Ikeda, vice president and general manager of Acura. "We're committed to infusing this core Acura promise into every facet of our products and every aspect of our relationship with the customer."

So, what you do think about Acura’s new design direction?

So..... the Japanese love child of Lamborghini?

I wonder if it is the same design team that did the Acura Advanced Sedan Concept back in 2006/2007?

For production they would most likely take "design cues" and not really recreate anything we see here in this concept (unless they follow Lexus but unlikely). I don't really have much care for Acura, I never found myself interested in their brand. I could never look at them separate from Honda, especially now since their TLX looks so similar to the new Accord.

Acura still makes vehicles????

I figured they would have died off by now with the morons they have in charge.

On this car anyone catch its claimed weight? I read an article estimating it to be ~4200lbs!!!

Looks or not I'd pass on that boat.

I like everything but the front end. I think this could be a preview of the next RLX. The TLX was just released and its too big to be a ILX replacement.

4/10 for effort.

Acura is going to change their name to Origami-car with that one.

At 204 inches this is a pretty long car. Does this mean Honda will finally make a true full size luxury sedan to compete against the LS, S, 7, and etc?

Once they dropped the integra, they had no products worth buying. They peaked in the 80s.

The concept is a joke. Unimaginative yet garish. Blech.

I think Acura only debuted in '86. I liked the look of the early Legend coupes. Saw a mint one a few months ago.
I have owned/leased new: '95 Integra GS 4 dr, '98 Integra GS coupe, 2001 EL, 2005 TL.
Aside from the EL which was a POS glorified Civic all of them were great cars. My next one was a loaded 2008 Accord. The Acuras were nicer cars and the TL was much nicer especially the quality of the interior compared to the Accord.
I believe model for model Lexus are higher quality overall, but Acuras are nicely finished cars. They just aren't at the level of offering RWD compact sedans and sport coupes (except the NSX which is exotic).

All sharp and pointy.

I miss cars have some good lines, some curves if only subtle in their execution. This, however, looks like a computer algorithm designed it.
