ATL: DGM bumper/diffuser swap?

The car I ended up purchasing had the diffuser pre-installed. I actually like the diffuser, especially on the DGM car, but unfortunately the diffuser is a port installed option and not legal for the autocross class I'd like to participate in (CS). Most folks locally probably wouldn't care because it doesn't do a whole lot at autox speeds, but for a national event people would.

The diffuser looks easy enough to remove on its own, but there are holes drilled into the rear bumper cover which it attaches to and I don't think they would be completely hidden under the car once its removed.

I got to thinking if there was another person in the ATL area who has a DGM BRZ or the Asphalt Grey FR-S and wants a diffuser, would they be willing to swap rear bumper covers? I don't think the rear bumper cover is terribly hard to remove and put back on, mostly just plastic clips.

I don't want any money for the diffuser just a bumper cover without it.

Dang, why couldn't this be white! Oh well, good luck!

I'd do it but I don't think the Firestorm on mine is going to look very good on yours!

I'll see if alex wants to do this...whenever he gets his DGM.

I am more than happy to swap with you whenever our vehicle comes in. Give me a call at the shop at your convenience (678) 858-4785. I was actually just reading through the Technical PDF about this last night.

Cheers,
Alex

Newb question, what does the diffuser do?

It smooths out the airflow exiting under the car at the rear. This reduces drag and, depending on the design, may also help increase downforce at the back.
At average road speeds, you're not likely to notice the difference between a car with the diffuser and one without. But, if you were going flat out on the track it could make a difference.

I'm my whiteout has holes in the bumper already for the diffuser....

Can you post pics of what holes your talking about?

xwd 06-30-2012 02:10 PM

I'm just going off of the Subaru instructions and what it looks like on my car. The instructions for a new install, say if you ordered from a dealer after getting the car, involves taking off the bumper cover and drilling holes in it. Do you have any pictures of the holes in yours?

JPM sorry I didn't get a chance to give you a call yet, I will when I get a chance.

Ill post some the pic soon.
