Brings to mind a story of back in the day ……… after I acquired my second vehicle (a 1948 Chevrolet coupe), I decided to “mod” my old ride (a 1937 Chev Pickup).
Yep, I turned it into a “quarter mile dragon wagon” …… cut off the bed and removed the sides of the hood to reduce the weight. Painted it with various different colored spray cans.
Welded 3 single barrel carbs onto the intake manifold.
Welded up a set of "headers", which consisted of four, 2” x 2’ long pieces of water pipes, coming more or less straight out of the head ……. of my “blue flame six” …… more on that later.
Now, in front of our farm, was a mile long, straight stretch of paved road …….. my personal drag strip.
I pulled out on the road to do a time trial ……… when out of nowhere, came an Ohio State Patrol car.
He pulled up beside me and motioned me over ……. so, I shut er down and drifted over onto the shoulder. He whipped out his pad and started writing. Then he got to the place where he said “fire it up”.
So, I did ……. he was standing right in front of the open exhaust pipes when he said, with an attitude, “rev it up”. I couldn’t resist and stomped on it and my “blue flame six” shot flames out about 2 feet …. slightly burning his uniform.
He was pissed ….. threw his book back into his patrol car and told me to get that POS off his highway and he NEVER wanted to see that machine again!
