FR-S / BRZ part builder web app

So I've been working on a little pet project - a part picker/builder for FR-S and BRZ fans:

http://ft86partpicker.com

This is a personal project for creating a parts configurator for BRZ and FR-S fans similar to pcpartpicker.com. It allows you to quickly browse categories, estimate prices, and experiment with different part combinations. It works on desktop and mobile (at least iPad).

Try it out, report bugs and leave feedback! If you don't agree with a description, or don't like something, please just let me know and I can change it. I appreciate constructive criticism. This is ALPHA software, so there are probably bugs, and the parts and part sections are incomplete.

With that said, I want to say thanks to SmartedPanda, BigFatLip, KR-S 86, LXXXV1, and Kilfer from the California NorCal forum (I live in the SF Bay Area) for input, feedback and suggestions! The development thread:

Enjoy!

Are you using any MVW frameworks? At cursory glance it seems like it's all hand rolled. If so, mad props!

Where are you sourcing the data from?

I now feel like I have wasted so much time!
Nice work. That is one big project you have taken on there.

It's not too big of a project yet, all client side for now. I do want to clean it up and use zepto.js, less.js and lodash.js. Maybe even TypeScript. I didn't think people would be looking under the covers yet :). The code is prototype-ish, not the cleanest but it works for now. I'll also github it once cleaned up.

Data is just one json file and me researching on tirerack, manufactures websites, etc. I dont plan to add every product available... Just enough to cover all categories and proven/popular items. I still need to add braces, bushings, interior lights, but I feel it already has a good amount of the basics.

For simplicity, I just use the query string for data. Simple, and easy to share! Maybe later I can add a back-end so people can share. Even then, I would just store links using the query... no need for a db, just keep it old school :)

I'd like to say thanks to these guys for much of the research, and borrowed images. I'm not making money off it so hopefully they're ok with that. I can replace images as needed.

tirerack.com
ft86speedfactory.com
rallysportdirect.com
evasivemotorsports.com
vividracing.com
fteightysix.com
frsport.com
modbargains.com

I have no affiliation with any of them, but I've bought parts from some.

Pcpartpicker for cars nice! It's a serious work in progress though lack of alot of parts but it's a good start

I've updated it a bit, adding a "More..." link for more templates, and clicking a template now shows the name. I moved the wheels filters to the detail list (ultimately I'd like to make a phone version). Also added a few products, oh and added an item count at the top.

There's a pretty good range of wheels, but what other sections need more products?

Btw, I toyed around with saving setups, but it opens so many cans of worms. If you want one added just pm me for now :)

I feel like all it needs is a more parts and general description of the mod and what it should do would be good at the top of each section. Headers should be in the exhaust section and also separately labeled as Headers, and forced induction should have it's own section as well. Cooling needs more products, koyo rad, mishimoto thermostat, evans waterless coolant to name a few. Also interior and exterior would be less cluttered if there was a separate section for lighting.

All in all nice job so far, also like pcpartpicker, I'm not sure how they grab the prices off sites maybe they have bots or something or those sites have an embed or api to help with prices, but if prices were updated automatically it would be cool and make this a legitimate site for you to make money off of.
