DriftEightSix 06-27-2012 06:18 AM

I dont know why it doesnt appeal to more women. This car is CUTE... yeah.. ok no one wants to hear its cute... SXC... to me its looks like the love child of a supra and 200sx - my two fav cars growing up.

I saw it at the dealership whilst looking at another, more sensible car ( Aurion)... but happended to go on the day the 86 arrived at the dealership... and fell in . Been reading up since.

Ahh... this is going to rekindle me to the good old days. I've been sensible for far too long.

:clap::clap: brilliant....... Dont forget the auto GTS while we are at it.....

HER86 06-27-2012 07:06 AM

I'm buying one! And I like to think i'm a Lady lol. I'm getting the Auto but only because I couldn't decide what I wanted so I ordered Auto and when I finally decided on Manual it meant November delivery instead of July so i'm staying with the GT Auto.. It's a super cute car and the only one I looked at and loved so I thought why not :)

It's still an amazing car - only issue with the GT auto is that it doesn't have paddle shifters and no LSD. I'm sure you will still have a blast in it.

I used to refuse to drive autos... then I had to drive to work and decided no other cars of mine deserved to have its clutch abused.

Not saying, merely insinuating :)

Speaking from experience? dont worry - many people are easily fooled. Especially when drunk.

Ravine 06-27-2012 09:38 AM

Female car enthusiast? What part of the internet have I ended up in?

Nafe 06-27-2012 09:53 AM

The best part, Ravine :P

I saw a list of orders for a particular dealership, and out of about 60 orders, there were only about 4 girls I think. Give or take one or two. Not many :P

czar07 06-27-2012 10:25 AM

saw a lady pick up her Auto GTS today. nice car

JiB 06-27-2012 10:35 AM

I have a bengal too ^_^ and a burmese :)

This will be the wife and my daily driver, in sydney and its manual... throwing all the rules out the window :P

ps. @UnLeasHer , you take your cat for drives????

spiller 06-27-2012 12:26 PM

this car is not "cute" lol. i'm dreading the day I see an 86 with pink seat covers and a playboy bunny decal on the back window. not a matter of if but when.

Thank you, now that someone else dared to say it, I'll second it :) It is cute! Especially the FR-S in white for some reason.

I didn't buy one, but I *would* buy one if I had to replace my car... if that counts ;)

Fussy08X 06-27-2012 03:43 PM

lol this car is not meant to be cute. But will b kool to see girls driving around in their own 86s

newft86 06-27-2012 05:41 PM

I've personally taken orders for both gt's and gts manuals and autos from the ladies, i'd say mostly because we don't discriminate at Warren Toyota and like those of us that don't stagnate, we move forward with the times and we recognized early the awesome appeal of the 86 to both sexes.

I personnally disagree with the cute remark. Not meaning to be rude to you either but there's no stereotype buyer, this car was made for everyone who loves to drive, whether cute or classic this ride has fantastic appeal to 99% of people that see it. Even if it's not the sort of thing they would usually go for, regardless of their sex or age. For these reasons alone not withstanding it's probably one of the most exciting cars you can enjoy at legal speeds, it has huge appeal to all. Reasons aren't important, like it, don't like it, this car has made it's mark globally and it's here to stay, cute or classic.

lol so the target market wouldn't be a sterotype?

newft86 06-27-2012 09:00 PM

Nope, it might have been to begin with but after test driving over 50 people in the last week of all different sexes, ages and backgrounds the typical stereotype of driver for a sports car, well let's just say this is a car that doesn't seem to have any boundaries with potential buyers when it comes to desire to own.

UnLeasHer 06-27-2012 09:34 PM

@Ravine – the dark side. Where females are buying cars themselves and not just sitting pretty in the passenger seat. ;)
@JiB – I did, but he prefers bush walks with the dogs these days. Let’s see if this car can change his mind!
@spiller – not all chick drivers are like that...
@R8 – Have you test drove an 86? I’d love to hear the comparison from an owner. I was close to buying an RX8 a while back and decided not to, because the sports version only came in manual and I wasn’t familiar enough with running a rotary engine to feel confident owning one.
@newft86 – this car has a lot of pull. I was going to buy a sensible car, and at first glance just decided to throw that notion out the window and buy it.
@DriftEightSix – I didn’t think the target audience was ever aimed at males – but car enthusiast ;)

LOL, I hear ya, I'd knew nothing about rotories when I bought mine. It's been... an adventure, lol. I know what many of you are going through working out the bugs in a first-year design car, right down to the "condensation in taillights" issue oddly enough.

I did drive a BRZ a few weeks ago. Fun little car!
  • Your car feels lower and wider, and you kinda look up and over the hood... the RX-8 I kinda look over and down at the road.
  • Both cars have the neat visible fender bumps to help judge where the front wheels are.
  • Your car feels like it has more torque and is easier to get going. Mine revs a bit higher.
  • Yours feels more open, airy and roomy inside. Mine kinda wraps around you like a caccoon.
  • Yours might be a touch louder and makes, well... piston sounds (unique though, different than most), lol. Mine is a nest of angry bees.
  • Your shifter (manual) is maybe a touch longer throw, but honda-like smooth. Mine is more mechanical, but equally nice and easy
  • Your clutch catches at the very top. Mine catches earlier. Not better or worse, just different
  • Yours looks cute and tiny. Mine looks like a batmobile ;)
  • Your rear seats are sorta emergency use only. Adult humans can sit in my back seats without hating me too much.
  • You can probably go months without checking your oil. I check mine every two weeks (and add some every four weeks)
  • Yours is relatively fuel efficient. Mine is... let's not go there.
Otherwise, pretty similar. If I HAD to buy a car, I'd consider a twin (trin?). But they're so similar in what they do, I can't really justify it just yet since my RX-8 is still doing well ;)

But I am a fan! It's really nice to see a whole new group of people enjoying driving a RWD sports car!
