Motegi Racing MR131 Traklite

I already have wheels, but I was just curious if anyone has experience with MR131s? You get what you pay for, but it says they are flow-formed. I don't see them in the wheel gallery and can't find any reviews.

Info I've read but can't confirm:

They are made by American Racing
They don't make them any more in 5x100, but still sold.

I'm not into cheap wheels, I'm just doing some information research.

Bump. I'm curious as well. I know some members here have motegi traklite's but the mr221 series and not the mr131. I always hear that traklite is very light in weight though I'm curious about its quality.

I have Traklite 1.0s, which are a bit of a different animal. Forged instead of flow formed, and I don't think American Racing owned Motegi at that time (could be wrong about that though). I'm very happy with them. The satin black painted finish is a bit on the thin side (seems closer to an anodized finish, thickness-wise), and so it scratches easily if you're rough, but other than that I have zero complaints. 12.5 pounds/each is a noticeable improvement over stock. I just wish they were still in production, because if one gets damaged, I'm screwed....new set of 4 wheels will be mandatory.

That's the way it is with discontinued wheels :(. Even worse, if they were of very limited run of specific size/PCD/offset and you hunted for long miscellaneous auctions/classifieds to get initial set of 4. This may be as pro to getting new, still being made, wheels (in case of forged lightweight ones that would be for example TWS T66-F), dispite their cons like very high cost.

Old thread, but I figured this would be useful in case other people are looking into these wheels. I was pretty close to getting a set of MR131s - they do make them in 5x100 - but we (the sales rep and I) were told by Motegi when the rep gave them a ring to place the order that the 17x7 45mm 131s do not clear the calipers on our cars. Also, the 131s are a couple of lbs heavier than the old 221 Traklites, I believe - which also makes them a couple of pounds heavier than the Kosei K4Rs.

I don't believe Motegi is owned by American Racing as such - they have the same parent company. Also, quality-wise - I've been using the MR119s (they're low pressure cast wheels, only a couple of lbs lighter than stock though) and I've been happy with them so far.

Hmm...that's surprising. My 16x7 ET40 Traklites clear the calipers with plenty of room...I'll go take a closer look at the spoke clearance...

EDIT: There must be a bigger difference between the Traklite 1.0 and the MR131 than I thought...there's almost an inch and a half clearance from the caliper to the wheel spoke, and clearly the 16" wheel isn't an issue..
