Anyone worried about chirping/idle/taillight condensation issues?

As the thread title says, is anyone worried about these problems discussed in the US thread?

Chirping Issue:
- Noise that is thought to be related to the direct injection system
- But from what I read has been found to be caused by some sort of cam issue
(Someone correct me if I'm wrong because I'm heavily relying on memory)

I just checked the number of ppl experiencing the chirping issue from both 86 & BRZ side, looks like a significant number of ppl are experiencing this issue.

Idle Issue:
- RPMs bouncing up and down during driving and sometimes when turning on some gadgets. (Please glance through the thread for more details)

Taillight Condensation Issue:
- Self-explanatory

I'm tempted to wait until the next batch of BRZs arrived which have this problem remedied. Thoughts?

EDIT: Just realised I wrote the thread title wrong DOH!. Meant to be "Anyone worried about chirping issue?"

I've been following the issue and I'm a bit worried too - my car is only being built next month so hopefully they can iron out the problem beforehand (like with tail light condensation). The noise isn't specific to manual or auto is it?

PS. You can edit the thread title by going to 'edit' then 'go advanced'

Will have to ask the guys who have taken delivery for feedback.
@Ravine @dangerfield and others who have 86 in possession please report back any unusual chirping sound

I'm not worried at all about it.

DriftEightSix 06-27-2012 03:07 AM

What is this chirping noise?

ex-gti 06-27-2012 03:14 AM

im not sure if this is the noise u guys are on abt..

when i went for the test drive in a manual gt over at chatswood toyota the other day..

noticed a very significant rumbling noise when the gear was in 2nd and the rpm gets above arnd 3k.. when i asked the salesman he referred to it as an intentional sound to get me to shift up?!?! i thought that was total bs and pointed out to him that it was only in the 2nd gear not in 1st or 3rd etc.

this the sound u guys are talking abt maybe? funny thing is i didnt hear it in the other 2 manual test drives i have been on.

Nardi330 06-27-2012 03:18 AM

Chirping noise is the link Nardi330 put up... thanks for finding that

Just edited the opening post:

The chirping issue is a noise you can think to be associated with noisy direct injection system such as that heard from the Lexus IS series engines.

However, according to much discussion in the US thread, Subaru and Toyota technicians have found that it may be due to cam slipping or perhaps the cam sensor not being accurate:

alright guys,

As I am the first person to actually let Toyobaru technicians fully diagnose my car, Subaru and Toyota sent 2 technicians each from Japan too actually diagnose my engine and these issues we are experiencing.

So, to begin, the issues are NOT normal and need to be fixed. The technicians fixed some valves, readjusted cam angles etc.. but I will get the full repair specs Monday. They are also tracking my car tomorrow and Sunday to get full engine read outs for future FR-S owners. So as of Monday any of you experiencing this problem will have a fix, and a quick one at that.

I have not had my car for a month now because of this but I can tell you that as long as I know that future owners will not experience these problems it was well worth it. Good luck to everyone who has had this issue and if you are still experiencing this please take your cars to the dealership over the next month and your problems should be addressed a lot sooner than mine!

(I'm pretty sure that's what the guy on the phone said, but I'm not an engine guy.)

Also, there turns out to be an idle issue present among the members where the idles just dip and raise due to turning on the A/C amongst other gadgets.
