MT Stick does not return to center neutral on its own

Hi guys,

I've noticed past two weeks or so, that the stick is really slow to return to center when I take it out of gear. To the point where out of 5th/6th is like "stuck" for a second or two before it ends up close to center again, and coming out of Reverse it won't return unless I force it to.

I can still drive it fine, I just have to move the stick around myself, which seems really odd.

Curious if anyone has had anything similar or heard of anything like this.

Thanks

If it is cold there the grease could just be thickened a bit. Could also be the return spring has broke or stuck. Both of these would be a pretty easy fix I would think.

I would bet you have a broken return spring. Sounds like it's time to upgrade to some MTec springs.

Thanks for the responses.

So, after reading these and having mentioned it to my more car-savvy boss, I am a smidgen more knowledge, and it does seem possible that something is up with the return springs. It's worth noting that it would be BOTH springs, because both right and left sides do it.

It feels like the springs are gunked up to me when I play with it.

I was reading about these today at lunch, and I am interested, but I'm nervous about the stories of ruining the passenger side bolt/threads. Plus it's winter and I don't have a garage.

I'm thinking I'll try and get the dealer to look at it.

Oh, and

yes, I had that same thought. I thought maybe it was just too cold or something, but even after 5 minute warm up in the driveway and a 15 minute drive, it still does it.

It isn't warming up at all in the driveway and even a 15 minute drive may not be enough if really cold. It is possible that it is still just cold related. The fact that it is both ways is sort of telling since the likely hood of both springs getting broken is probably pretty remote (not impossible but it would be weird if they were).
