Sydney 18 x 8.5 wheels?
 

Hi guys,

I'm looking to put GTC01RR's 18 x 8.5's on my 86 but not sure if its too wide since stock are just 7".

If anyone has 18x8.5's on their 86 and lives in Sydney can I come have a look sometime?

Beautiful wheels bro - that size will fit fine. I have a set of Rays Gram Lights here which rocked up 2 days ago the exact same size & have already tested it out with stock struts & apparanetly will still be fine even if you lower 20mm say on an Eibach ProKit.

depends what offset i have 18 by 8 +44 offset with 235\40 tyres only about 10 mm clearance with about -0.5 neg camber , you would not want to go closer than that rearly 8.5 at that offset will be 6mm closer ie about 4 mm clearance

legally you can only go to +40 in oz due track limitation change. but if you dont care you would be wanting to get an offset in the +37 range to give yourself clearance at the front especially if you want to run some negitive camber

18x8.5+42 gives inner wheel to stock strut clearance of 12mm (I have seen/measured it) before camber adjustment which will bring it closer again. The tyre I will use will be 225/40/18 so there will be a slight stretch & will not bulge out. My only real concern will be negative camber & how much I can get - obviously more clearance here would be best. Personally I might just test this first before doing all 4 wheels cos it's pretty close . . . but I do love these wheels :wub: 8" width would be better suited here tbh & ideally with an offset of +35 :/

A little unrelated to the thread but I'm thinking of getting a set of 57DRs. Would you happen to know if the stock lug nuts will work ok?

It's interesting that Rays Japan don't list a 57DR that actually fits ours cars :hitcomputer: but Autotechnik do list/stock them. Why would you want to skimp on wheel nuts when the OE ones are ordinary? Get these instead http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RAYS-Whee...item3f5a8f5e11

I have the Rays 57Dr in 18x8.5 with 38 offset and they fit fine. Slightly more poke in front than is prob legal but it's acceptable.

The OEM wheel nuts fit fine. Having said that they look like crap are a soft metal and will cross thread if you don't screw on by hand first.

Invest in some decent STEEL nuts and a set of lock nuts. Sure they can be gotten off eventually but making it as hard as possible is the idea.

I have the Muteki SR48 open end in red and a set of McGard spline drive and while the Muteki look good, anodised red, they started scratching the first time I used them while the McGard are still brilliant. The McGard have the spinning seat that are a lot easier on the wheel bolt hole seats.

I'd advise keeping your OEM wheels and nuts and refitting them when you get your car serviced. Most dealers don't give a shit about how they treat after market wheels and decent nuts.

Oh and make sure you get some hub rings to suit and remember to remove them when putting OEM wheels back on.

They look like a great buy, and gurantee auththenticity, but the $35 postage is a trap especially where they have other nut sets available with $18 postage.

Perhaps an email asking for cheaper postage might work.

I got those wheel nuts plus the Rays centre caps plus a stack of other electronic stuff - his prices were on par or better than Streeters ;)

Yeah I know they're reputable and I've bought stuff off them and I actually bought Rays Centre cups off them myself.

I'm considering a set of the nuts myself. Getting genuine brand wheel nuts is a lot harder than it should be, always some prick trying to rip you off!,and genuine at that price are pretty good.

Just pointing out that if one set of nuts costs $35 to post compared with a more expensive set costing $18 to post it's worth shooting him an email asking why and if it can be done cheaper.
