Street legal header for BRZ

Hi folks,

Is there a header for the BRZ that basically replaces the stock one but everything else stays the same? I don't care about sound improvement/loudness, just performance...

Thanks!

What's street legal in your area? That'll be the first step to selecting a header

Do you need to retain the front cat to pass your state inspection?

No... I'm in a county in Maine where they don't even test for emissions.

However, I would like to retain it if there's a header that allows me to.

Any catted header will be legal for purposes of your goals.

Ft86speedfactory was making a catted header for a while

JDL auto design has a couple of catted header options.

Any header is illegal as far as I know, at least in Canada. However if they don't test for it, how will they know you went aftermarket?

Edit: or you can gut your stock header for free preformance? You still need a tune though

There's two catted headers available now, with a third coming soon, that I know of. FT86SpeedFactory has one, JDL Auto Design has one, and Holley/Hooker Headers should be releasing theirs pretty soon.

If you want performance then your going to have to go catless header.

their are no big gains in performance with these cars.

catted headers limits these gains.

you will also need a tune to get best gains from header.

and consider E85 fuel.

see basic bolt on mods link below

This is so wrong. Headers are NOT illegal in Canada. They should be legal in every province. On PEI where we do annual motor vehicle inspection, the only thing that is required is that any cat that was on the vehicle, must be replaced.

There are no laws, as far as I know, preventing anyone from installing headers. That being said, I'm not sure what it's like in Ontario where there is emissions testing that takes place.

I thought it was a federal offense to modify any emissions system in Canada? I could be wrong :iono: If it works same as OEM I can't see anyone making a stink about it. I run full catless and so far havent had any issues in Alberta haha

omfg5041 01-05-2016 06:53 PM

Not to my knowledge. At the shop I work at, we do install headers, and modify exhausts all the time. Alberta doesn't do annual inspections. On PEI we do. As long as the parts installed have the same components (I.e. We would need just 1 cat on PEI, or install it after mvi) and no leaks, it would pass an mvi.
