UNIQUE TURBO BUILD

It has been about 6 months since I picked up my brand new 2015 Toyota GT86 Aero Kit. I have driven about 5500km so far and now I'm thirsting for power.

After looking for a suitable turbo kit for my GT86, I found that with the cost of shipping, tax, conversion from USD to NZD, it was well over my budget. Also to note, majority of the kits out there does not comply with the certification law in New Zealand as it modifies the original crash beam.

I have decided to build my own turbo set up from scratch. This allows me to choose all the parts I want.

I have decided to run a Garrett GTX2867R Turbo with a Tial 0.86a/r V Band housing.

I have removed the factory intake, sound changer and the exhaust manifold to make room for the top mount turbo

With the intake and air box removed, I tried mocking up a place to mount the turbo. I found that with the factory fan and shrout, there wasn't much clearance for the turbo. It was either too close to the pulley or too close to the fan. I've come to the decision to remove the factory fan and shrout and ordered slim fan.

Looking good!
Our import taxes and shipping mess up prices in SA too!

Sub'd! I have always admired people who can build their own kits. I wouldn't know where to start :P

How much space do you save with the slim fan?

The factory shrout + fan measures 9cm at the thickest point. The slim fans are about 4cm. I will also shift the top of the radiator forward (modifying top radiator mount) by about 2-3cm clearing more room in the front.
