Berk Muffler Delete + OFH = Too Loud. Considering Electric Cutout
I've been running the Berk dual muffler delete for the past year or so, and loved it. Not raspy, just a little drone at ~2000rpm. Recently decided to get the open flash tablet (OFT) and open flash header (OFH). I put the header on, and the combo is almost obnoxious, especially for living in an apartment complex. If it were a track car, the Berk/OFH combo would be great.
I decided to put the OEM muffler back on, and was disappointingly reminded how tame it sounded. So I'm currently looking at getting an electric cutout. Does anyone have one installed? I'm thinking the best location would be somewhere after the cat on the front pipe? How much can I expect to pay to get a shop to weld it on (assuming I just bring them the pipe, not the entire car)? |
Maybe have a shop weld in a small muffler on the berk similar to how the works ab-m is.

Danny Q has the right idea, you're going to have to get a muffler shop to weld in a resonator or muffler in between the dual tips a lot of people have done this to much success and it also kills a lot of the drone. You could definitely get it done for less than $100. In my case my only other exhaust mods will be a mid pipe from nameless and a resonated front pipe from hks or invidia, so I won't have the same problem you'll have with your berk muffler delete. |
Have Tomei EL headers, PLM overpipe, HKS dual resonated front pipe, and the Invidia n1. Might work for you, but the car has 3 resonators (2 in the front pipe, one in the mid), just as loud as my hi flow catted front pipe, dual resonated front pipe didn't help.

Custom 3" exhaust with cutout for track. If I can get 5 people who want it, the fabricator can make more. $1400 a piece:
It is utilizing T304 stainless steel tubes, vibrant resonator, vibrant muffler, QTP electronic exhaust cut out, and all held together with vibrant v-band clamps. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...pshfulesbe.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...psu6zkq2uc.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...pspry6i6gp.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...psxldakolr.jpg I did this for the purpose of being able to go to noise restriction tracks to close to cut out. |
Why not just get a quiet axleback? You could sell the muffler delete and not be out too much money
|
Sell the berk and get a Works ABM or ABR. Both are significantly quieter than the berk dual.
You can also try the berk single. Surprisingly its much quieter than the dual. I've ran stock, works ABR, Berk single, and berk dual. The dual is by far the loudest of them all. |
