Automatic Owners - Help us develop auto compatible versions of our turbo kits!

We are currently seeking an automatic transmission FR-S/BRZ owner that is willing to loan their vehicle to us for testing & development for automatic transmission compatible versions of our turbo kits! This would be for both Tuner and CARB Compliant versions.

We're looking for a vehicle that:
is a 2013 to 2016 model year
Has the OEM airbox, exhaust manifold & front pipe installed

We imagine that:
Initially we'll need the car for a few days for testing.
If that goes well, we'll have the car come back for about a week to install a complete kit.

A Stage 2 CARB Kit, WORKS air filter & installation (with Eneos oil change) is about $6,800.

We'll be offering at least $1,000 off and potentially more depending on how available the car is, what equipment it has and how long we'll end up needing it.

Let us know if you or you know someone who would be interested!

Cheers.

I'm on the east coast unfortunately, but I would purchase this kit in a heartbeat if you do release an AT version. As an engineer I personally think this is the best designed FA20 turbo kit on the market.

Other than the oil drain location on the block, is there any reason why the current tuner kit isn't compatible with the AT? Based on your (awesome) install guide, that was the only thing I could see that would prevent this kit from bolting on to my car.

Thank you for the kind words!

And you're correct about the main issue. There might be some other small changes like vacuum line routing, but the only real obstacle is the oil drain location.

Cheers.

Since she's up on stands until spring, I'd be tempted if I were a young man. But I'm getting old and just like cruising curvy roads, so I'm staying NA. Thanks for the opportunity though.

I would be interested, but I live down in SoCal. Road trip!

Much depends of course on what we find during testing, fitting, etc.

We imagine though that:
Initially we'll need the car for a few days for testing.

PM sent.

It's looking like we'll be ready to perform the first round of testing next week.

If you're interested volunteering your vehicle let us know!

Cheers

If you even move to Canada let me know. With the dollar value as it is right now, you could bring down costs significantly. :)

We have a lot of guys that are out of work out here in the west. Come set up a shop lol you will have a work force and its cheaper labor, at this point it is almost as cheap as making stuff in china

fucking eh.
ehhhhh.......
both you and I are about to see an inflow of asian investment into buying more land and houses. i estimate a 20% jump of property values by end of this year.

back to the thread thou.
What is the issue with the traction and turbo? I see everyone running traction off with their AT turbos. Is this mandatory?
Does the extra power cause wheels to slip which causes traction to cut power?
Do I have to drive it in Snow Mode if I dont want slippage?

orangespark 01-22-2016 10:30 AM

Wouldn't driving in snow mode all the time wear out the transmission because you're starting in 2nd gear all the time?
Just confirming. I thought that was always the case.
Also, I was reading somewhere they are thinking of proposing a non-resident property tax in BC. I don't see that as being useful at all.

WORKS 01-22-2016 07:13 PM

Bump!

You of course don't need to commit to our offer for a turbo kit to volunteer your vehicle. You can simply volunteer. :)

Let us know if you have any interest!

Cheers

We do have a volunteer, but ideally we would like to find someone who is interested in purchasing one of the kits that we would of course heavily discount for them.

Come to Canada its much cheaper for you and the only way I could afford a turbo of any kind

WORKS 01-29-2016 08:13 PM

Still looking for a volunteer that is also interested in purchasing a kit with a large discount!

Let us know!

We have a car to use just for the first rounds of testing, but are still looking for a volunteer to use for installing a complete kit (and wanting to purchase the kit)!

newcscsl 05-05-2016 01:19 AM

How much discount are you offering?

The most crucial thing needed for an AT kit versus the MT kit is the need to cool the transmission fluid. This is critical. The new owner of your kit is not going to be too understanding when the extra power fries there trans. Even though it's not your fault, they will blame you for not telling them. Just include an efficient bar-and-plate cooler with lines for the trans fluid, but make sure it is plumbed UPSTREAM of the OEM trans heat exchanger so that the fluid gets warmed up properly before it goes back to the trans. After all, what good is your kit going to do, when the car's in the garage getting the trans replaced.

that auto trans...

The auto trans has shown to hold torque up to 300whp pretty reliably, I doubt that their carb tune is going exceed that...

MTs need a clutch long before an auto needs a cooler.

KoolBRZ 05-06-2016 06:26 PM

you're talking torque, I'm talking temp

An NA can overheat the trans, at 160 hp. What do you think 300 hp will do? Unfortunately an OFT can't display trans fluid temps, so it could happen without notice. By the time the CEL shows it's already too late. The plastics in the trans are already cooked. Bottom line, if an engine oil cooler is needed, a trans fluid cooler should be needed as well.

Jaden 05-06-2016 06:39 PM

well then you're talking about something else.

sure if you're tracking it or running it hard for long periods, definitely get a cooler. But just having more power doesn't mean you immediately need a cooler.

They mentioned in another thread that it would be ready to ship in Nov but it wasn't a huge announcement. I sent them PM and found out they're taking deposits now. I just placed my order. :happyanim:
PM them or call the shop directly and talk to Jarrett.

Hey,

We are working on the big announcement. If you would like more details on how to pre-order the kit feel free to give us a call so we can get you set up. We have just a few of the first batch left....

WORKS 09-26-2016 07:31 PM

Thank you to everyone that offered their help in developing the automatic transmission compatible turbo kits. They have become a reality!

Check out the details for pre-ordering here! - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111073
