Car feels sluggish after new Intake + Exhaust
 

Hello everyone,

This is my first time posting on this forum although I've been lurking around for a while.

Recently I went and invested in a new intake+exhaust. Installed it about 3 days ago and it's feeling a bit sluggish compared to the OEM stock intake and exhaust. Was wondering if either I did the install incorrectly or the car just needs to get used to the new components. I made sure there were no leaks from the exhaust and that in intake was firmly bolted.

It is an Injen air intake and a greddy exhaust. Also this exhaust is super loud. no idea it was gonna be this loud lol

Is it a catback exhaust, full exhaust? Need more details. I would guess the intake you installed is doing it as the MAF sensor plugs into it. First step is to put the stock intake back on, then see if it still does it. You don't need to put the sound generator back in, just plug the hole where it was. Generally speaking I would avoid the Injen intake. As I've heard over the years some people having small issues with that type of intake and losing a little power. If my above suggestion doesn't work or you're not willing to put the stock intake back in I would remove the positive battery connection for a while so the computer resets and relearns. I'd try the putting the stock intake back in first though.

I have not, I was looking into local shops in my area.

I was thinking about doing a tune down the road

dual catback with just midpipe, stock OEM front. greddy evo gt it is called i believe.

I'll put back the stock intake since the install is relatively easy. do you think I should just drive it for a couple more days to see if everything settles?

How far have you driven it? Sort of along the lines of what Stocky said the ECU will have to relearn some things with the new intake (presuming you have a catback then that won't affect anything). It can take a 100 miles or so sometimes.
Give it some time to learn or like Stocky said switch the intake back and see if that makes a difference.

since i just did it about 3 days ago, probably less than 75 miles since then.

Well it should be close to learning then. I would still give it a little longer before pulling the intake.

The stock air box is pretty efficient, to be honest. Unless if you're chasing the cone filter/cold air intake noise, a drop-in filter is basically all you need. Chances are the MAF scaling for the new intake is different, so it may require a tune. As far as I know, only a few aftermarket CAIs are close to the factory MAF scale. The Grimmspeed one comes to mind. If you have a datalogger you can compare commanded AFR to actual AFR to get an idea of how far off the scaling is.

okay ill do just that, if it seems to be doing the same thing I will try putting back in the stock intake. hopefully all goes well!

The CAI was recommended to me by someone who had one. This is the first car I purchased on my own that has more than 130HP (lol). so i'm pretty stoked about adding stuff to it. maybe I jumped the gun to quickly haha. the car has only about 4000 miles on it

Do you know anything about OFT? Is there stage 1 tuning good enough for an aftermarket exhaust +intake?
