Hood Strut Installation

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, this is my first post. I recently bought a Scion FR-S and the previous owner included a set of hood struts that he said he never got around to installing. The package doesn't have any instructions, but I thought no problem how hard could it be so I tried putting them on myself. I've failed, but I'm not sure if I have all the required hardware and I was wondering if anyone on the forum could help me out. The hood struts are from Gimmick Motorsports and it includes all the parts pictured below.http://imgur.com/OTFRPGl

My buddy just had some trouble installing some hood struts. Get the picture working and we should be able to help you out.

I'm gonna assume this is what it came with:

OR
http://www.gimmickmotorsports.com/wp..._dampers_1.jpg

only difference is one is carbon fiber and the other is not

As that is what is listed on there site here:

Perhaps email them and request them to send a pdf install manual? I personally would've thought the previous owner would've been smarter to go with a grimmspeed or fteightysix kit but that's just me.

@jadewbj is the only person I can find so far that already has this installed on his whiteout build hopefully he can comment and help too

@fteightysix is dope! That seems to have similiar components to what he has

You may want to be careful with these stay assy because due to the material of the hood, you can easily apply too much force when close causing the hood to flex.

Wow really wasn't expecting this much support, thanks a lot guys. I just finished installing them thanks to the video, however I didn't end up using any of the washer that were included which hopefully wont be much of an issue. I heard great things about this community and I'm excited to be a new member. Thanks again.

Interesting, maybe the washers act as spacers?

Aren't some of those lock washers? Seems like those should probably be on there somewhere

I wouldn't trust hood struts from a company called GIMMICK motorsports. I got the grimmspeed ones and they're awesome

Why not? Would "Family Trusted Motorsports" be any better? Struts probably rebranded from the same supplier anyways

I haven't seen anyone make knockoffs of the Grimmspeed. Their design is a bit unique, vs. the others I've seen.

I haven't looked into any of them. Figured it would be a bracket, a strut with a ball joint on one end and another bracket. Didn't think grimmspeed would be in the hydraulic business so they would have to outsource, just like everyone else

jadewbj 12-19-2015 03:38 PM

Just saw this. Looks like you got a good answer. They have held up for over 3 years.

Well, both Grimmspeed and Gimmick would be G-awesome!
