Another strange noise thread

Just took the car on a highway trip and it is now making a noise I have not heard in the 1.5 years I've had it. It sounds like gear noise, and I only hear it when I push the gas and the car is in gear. It seems to be louder in 4th and up. The noise is not present if I rev the motor in neutral or if I push in the clutch and rev it, and once again is only present if I push the gas.

Any thoughts as to what this could be, or any way I can diagnose this on my own? I can take it in to the dealership and have it checked out, but I'd rather not if I don't have to. I really don't think I'm being paranoid as it is a distinctive sound that I have not heard. I also put on a set of blizzaks before the trip, but I'd think if it was tire noise it would be present just rolling down the street but I can only hear it when I push the gas.

It is the snows.
Mine only make weird noises at certain speeds as well. They also make the strangest noise when I turn that would scare the crap out of me if I didn't know I changed tires.
If it really is bugging you, you could swap the summers back for a bit to confirm but that is a lot of work.

Thanks Tcoat, I think I'll swap my tires back just to be sure. I've never thought of this car as delicate but I've been reading horror stories on here about throw out bearings and such and thought I'd check. The last thing I want is to keep driving around a make a potential problem worse.

Don't let those horror stories spook you too much. Ya they happen but it is a miniscule percentage and the vast majority are driving around issue free. Just nobody ever posts "well 2 years without an issue now" so all you see are the problems.
These cars make all sorts of weird and wonderful noises and you will need to get used to them. Every sound does not mean it is broken and in many cases all cars make the same noises but they are better sound proofed so you just never hear them.

Nobody will believe you and it will just devolve into a list of complaints that "everybody knows we all have".

Let me know how that goes. When i had my summer tires RS3 shot would howl like no tomorow, thought it was my diff making noise swap back to oems and what you know, no more noise

The past two weeks I've noticed what appears to be transmission whine that I could SWEAR I'd never heard before. High pitched whine that you hear while accelerating in gear, and it is definitely the transmission. I switched to AMSOIL a few months ago, but I swear I'm only just now hearing it. I know the bolts are torqued to spec, and nothing is leaking, so I really doubt it's a fluid issue. Maybe it's always been there. I kind of like it. It's very, very faint and sounds like #RACECAR, but I can't help but wonder in the back of my mind if it's the first hint of a larger problem, lol. Oh well. #YOLO *drops clutch*

I think that's an excellent idea!
If I had thought of it I'd start the thread, but I'm not in the idea stealing business.

I have no crickets! Or they're in one of those frequencies I lost at the Rolling Stones concert in '87. Same result, though!

I haven't had crickets since the first couple of hot days last spring.
Or like you Cooper killed them.
