Custom exhaust questions

Ok so I'm looking at getting some custom exhaust work done but don't know overly much about exhaust and what will and what won't work. I've currently got force equal length headers and an over pipe on it, I'm looking at keeping the stock front pipe and mid pipe but changing the muffler to get a better tone. Can I just change muffler with dual catback or do I have to change the midpipe and muffler? And what is my best option for changing it out is it dual catback or something else? I don't want it to loud and don't want a drone. Looking at getting it custom built, don't want a aftermarket one. Thanks for help.

you don't need to change your mid pipe or muffler if you don't want to. you can just have your exhaust guy put on new tips for your current exhaust. though, if you want a different tone than stock then you might want to change your muffler. talking with your exhaust guy would give you a lot of options. he should know what to do.

Yeah looking to change tone of exhaust to more of a grumble something like the wrx tone. So would it be a replacement muffler or? Thanks for help

Muffler delete sounds like it's what you're looking for. Keeps stock mid pipe and front pipe.

Ok so what do I put in place of muffler? Sorry don't have much idea on exhaust and don't want to go to a shop to have them put something on and sound shit, raspy and drone.

if you want a rumble like the older WRX's (the newer ones are EL headers afaik), then you would want an unequal length header.

as for a muffler delete, it is basically what the name implies lol. you remove the muffler and replace it with a pipe. I'm not really sure how it sounds, but on a stock system, it shouldn't be overly loud or raspy. it might have a slight drone at higher RPM's though. definitely look on youtube and find out what sound you like best. also keep in mind that youtube videos don't do much justice either since the exhaust note isn't entirely captured by phones lol

Hmm yeah ok don't know about the muffler delete then. Maybe get rid of stock down pipe and get a custom built from front pipe back.

If you want a WRX/STI kind of grumble I would say that UEL headers are a must.

resonators are usually a good idea to keep the raspy-ness down.

Well you've got equal length headers so that's gonna be kind of tough but you could get a muffler delete with a resonator welded in between the pipes

Yup, in fact it uses the FA20 on everything but the STI still have the older ej25 and still have a uel manifold for the turbo i believe

Ok well I won't get that wrx rumble with my equal length headers but I'm still looking for that nice tone without the rasp or drone. So what I've gathered so far if I get a custom down pipe with resonator and dual catback it should give a good tone and because of the resonator it shouldn't rasp or drone? Correct?

Yup, a resonated front-pipe, resonated mid pipe and dual canisters. To be honest I might be the only person OK with the el sound, I'm only going to be going as far as a headerback anyway.

The muffler shop i visited made a custom work on my car. They leave the stock resonator and put a magnaflow muffler with 4.5 inch tips. Now the car have a nice growl
