Tpms on ebay
 

Ive been reading about the tpms and pulled the trigger went by the dealership today to have my tpms,s read for the codes. The dealer I purchased from didn't have the Toyota scan tool updated so they could not do it. So after 3 hrs I went to another stealeership and paid 25.00 and received all of my codes for my tpms,s. I have found the guy on ebay that sales the oem take offs Lexus, Scion and Toyota for 60.00 all 4. I am planning on putting this set in my new xxr 18 inch rims. Before I purchase I was wanting some final input on the proper protocol for the cloning the one I get from ebay. I am keeping my stock wheels so I don't want to touch those. My question is, the ebay ones have their own id numbers, So how does this work when I get my new tires from Discount tires here in Atlanta? Do I take my ebay tpms,s ones that are used, with my id numbers from the ones that are in my stock wheels and they reprogram the ebay ones to the stock ones. I AM SO CONFUSED INFORMATION OVERLOAD I NEED MEDICAL HELP> HA Any way can some of the experts out their give me some clear guidance . I know this thread has been beat to death. You have to reprogram the ECU on your vehicle to recognize the new TPMS #'s off of the TPMS sensors you plan on buying off of ebay. I used this...

This will allow you to re-program and also read codes off of sensors (what you paid the dealer to do) as long as the vehicle ECU already has the ID's programmed in. With the Quickset, you'll be able to swap between your new and old wheels and will just require a quick re-flash to the new ID's to get rid of your low tire pressure light.

Hsc, I plan on running my xxr 18 inch wheels, 95 % of the time. I will use my stock wheels with my track tires and auto x here in the Atlanta area maybe 2 3 times a year. I was talking with the assistant manager of one of our many Discount tire stores in the area. He says he can program in the new sensors to my new wheels and tires. Without purchasing this programmer I'm still puzzled on how this will work. I worked F-15,s in the AirForce for 10 yrs and C-130,s H-1 and H-2 models for 14 yrs, I don't claim to be the sharpest tool in the wood shed, But I am just trying to rap my brain around this process. I know the car has them logged into the ecm right now. And I have the individual serial no,s in hand. So when I get the ones from the ebay site, they to, have individual serial no,s that are different to the factory ones. So with this cloning device at the tire store or this unit you have, you would put into the device the numbers off of your factory ones and up load, or will you put the id,s off of the ebay ones and up load those? More help in understanding is greatly appreciated. Thanks Steve

I actually bought a set of Toyota/Lexus TPMS sensors for ~30 dollars shipped and had them installed with my new of wheels/tires.

I've had them for a few hundred miles and no light or issues.

I didn't even realize you had to reprogram them or get specific sensors, so overall pretty lucky.

sroby - you're pretty much spot on. Discount tire can reprogram your ECU to recognize the new TPMS sensors based on the ID's you provide but when you swap back to your stock wheels, the ECU will not recognize the TPMS sensors and will trip the light since it can only store one set of codes at a time. But if you're just using them for the track or autoX, than it's not a big deal and I'd just have Discount tire program the new ID's and deal with a light the few times you roll on the other wheels. If you did get the Quickset, you have the ability to swap back and forth and not have to deal with dealer/tire shops as long as you have the ID #'s of the TPMS sensors. Hope that makes sense.

If you have an iPhone or android and a cheap obd sensor you can update TPMS with an app called Carista

I presume that you can also change the pressure that they are set to read?
Otherwise you would have to run the stock tire pressure or higher no matter what tires you have.

Hmmm not sure about that. I have the app but don't have TPMS on my 2013 car

I bought a set of Toyota/Lexus TPMS sensors for my summer wheels and an ATEQ Quickset as linked above. Works perfectly and is super easy when it comes time to swap. With this device, you can avoid having to go to the dealer to get your stock codes read--you simply connect it to your OBD2 port and read what is on the ECU and save that as your winter wheel codes. You then reconnect the quickset to your PC and you can save them in a file or write them down. At this time you can enter your new sensor codes to the Quickset device which will then write them to your ECU.

Tcoat brought up a good point. I never took into consideration that they are also programmed for a specific PSI setting. I keep my wheels filled to 35 psi or whatever is in the door jam and my TPMS light stays off. At the beginning of winter the light does come on because it is a few PSI low, refilling back to the factory spec level does make the light go back off.

if i understand correctly...you have bought a set of tpms for 30$.

have them installed on new wheel without reprogramming your tpms ecu on your brz...

and they just work like that?

Has a few ECU customisation tricks up its sleeve too. Need to make sure the obd adaptor is compatible, they sell their own which will 100% work. I was lucky and found an eBay special that works great
