I had tons of Hot Wheels but the Sizzlers Fat Track were my favorite.

Hotwheels were just coming into Canada about the time I was out growing out of toy cars.
Now Matchbox on the other hand...

Ya, well... you definitely have a couple decades on me there. I still buy myself hotwheels cars now, on the days I pass by this hobby expo that's open most weekends [somewhat] near my house. They now range from 3 to $10 now! :bonk:

I have none of mine - wish i had kept some. that's an awesome collection! I was born in England and spent the first 7 years of my life there. i grew up on matchbox cars, and if i was lucky i'd get the occasional dinky or corgi toy (of either captain scarlet or thunderbirds vehicles). i also had 'action man', which was the UK's version of GI Joe.

Ya, I was lucky that a bunch of my stuff got packed away for a move back in 74 and was forgotten in my parents attic until about 6 years ago when my sister was looking for something and found it.
Even more surprising was that a handful of the 100s of model kits I built as a kid survived intact (most met the same fate as the B17 I mentioned in a previous post).


This one I built when I was about 11. The two mangled antennas are stretched plastic sprue and although brittle survived almost 40 years in a box with other stuff piled on top of them.

Those are really good skills for an 11-year old. Very impressive. I think i've seen some other pics of the models you built - all very well done! weathering is an art all on its own. i can appreciate your work. i used to built mostly airplane and armour as a teen through college, then just stopped due to lack of time. i had them all displayed in a glass case but when i moved to the states i left them all behind. that's the result of living in 4 different countries - can't take everything with you.

this past week, one of our friends gave my son (who just turned 8) a present, and i was wondering why he apologized to me when he gave it to him wrapped. turned out to be a revell 1/48 corsair. he knew my son hadn't started building models yet, so he knew i'd have to take the lead on it. i hadn't built an airplane in about 25 years, and many of my paints were old, but i was able to 'wing it' and put it together. at first, i was just going to slap it together for my kid without painting it, but i decided to put a little bit of effort into it (which turned out to be about 10 hours). i'm definitely a bit rusty, and don't have an airbrush anymore (nor the right paints so i even used some of his kid acrylics and mixed them), so it wasn't up to my old standards (no putty, filling, sanding etc); but then revell isn't tamiya or hasegawa either :)
The weathering is a quick and dirty dry brush job.

my son was happy with how it turned out, so all's well that ends well. here are some pics of it.

That is outstanding for no practice and brush paint! I am actually a big fan of those old Revell kits for a quick build and to showcase paint and weathering without worrying about complex cockpits and other detail that you can't even see when complete. I built several of the 1/48 line for my son's boss.
Here is the old Revell P38 I did up for him. It was a gift for his Father who worked on them.

I was heavily into model rockets and planes, had the bb guns, but whenever someone asks what my favorite Christmas gift of my youth was, the first thing that springs to mind is Johnny Seven OMA (One Man Army)!
