HID questions

Hey I know there's probably other post that have answer to my questions but I'm just switching over from led headlights to HID headlights. With that I bought a pair of morimotos hd 6k with 50 watt ballest with stand alone can bus. I though it would be okay using this set up cause I didn't want to use a HD relay.

Can you use stand alone canbus for HID headlights or what? For when I tried to set up mine, it wouldn't work at all. So if that's the case are only HD relays the way to go?

Factory housings? I just bought my set through my work and had zero issues.

I completed the install (2nd time) of the Diode Dynamics kit for my car today. Not using a relay and it works perfectly fine.

Now don't quote me on this statement, but I think 50w ballast might be too much for our cars. Most people I've seen here and in person use 35w ballast. Perhaps the car is sensing that its drawing too much power and preventing the lights from turning on. Again, please don't quote me.. lol

I'm looking on theretrofitsource for the FRS and its showing 35w ballast option only for the Morimoto full retrofit kit.

Also don't need canbus on the frs. 35watt non canbus ballasts and no issues.

Can anyone who has put HIDs in these take a picture of the cutoff line against a wall? I'm curious if they come out near what factory is or have a horrible light pattern.

Hey guys quick question to HID lighting my 6k bulbs with 50 watt ballasts is showing like its 4K with a yellow hue. Is that normal as it takes time for the HID to burn in or am I wrong?

With a higher wattage ballast, the color will general drop to the lower kelvin colors a little bit.
I wouldn't imagine a 6000k being colored like a 4000k though.

I have 7k or 8k ish and a 55W ballast if I remeber right and it is pure white, also so dam bright that I try not to use them when I dont have to.

Okay though the retro style rep stated that it would take a couple of weeks for the true color to kick in. Is that true?

8k is like purple... 5-6k is pure white. That would be crazy if a high power ballast would change it that much.

Yeah I was told to go a temp range up so I did and I could not be happier. I think it was 7K on 35W so it is like 6K on 55W :iono: I don't know to much about this stuff to be honest haha

This is normal. The increased ballast power (35w to 50w) will cause the bulb to look more yellowish.

Edit: My bad didnt read all the comments already...:slap:

OEM bulbs like Philips, Osrams will "color-shift" to a more brighter white at or around 200 hours of run time on the bulbs. So a 4300K bulb will end up being around 4700K - 5000K.

I am not 100% sure if aftermarket bulbs like the Morimotos will do the same, I believe they don't color-shift.

Question for everyone, what HID set up do you use?
