E85 and or flexfuel kit

I have been seeing more and more gas stations offering e85 and even came across one selling for 85cents a gallon as a promotion for the day. What are any negatives for the car in the long run after installing flexfuel kit or reflashing for e85?

Reduced miles per gallon, and scarcity of places to refuel on E85 depending on where you live.

Would the fuel system see any damage long-term?

You are very limited in stations you can go to and the biggest complaints on e85 is long term damage that no one has come by yet with a proper tune. You lose 30% gas mileage but the price is droped by 30% and tou gain around 20hp in the process. I mean the frs brz is a "fun" car so i dont see why not get it.

do some simple math though, I find VERY frequently that e85 is not much cheaper than 91.

granted the power/fun is worth it, but some stations really screw you on price

odd my stations are always $2 or less a gallon. Guess I'm lucky! :)

I think the long term damage is a myth. I've ran E85 for 50K+ miles so far. I replaced my spark plugs at 80k miles on the car and apparently they were really clean and looked like they can handle another 30k miles. Seems that it burns really clean and doesn't have much carbon build up at all.

Have you also been running e85 specific oil?

I haven't. All I've been using is Mobil 1 0W-30 and have had no problems with it. I change the oil every 7,500 miles and don't notice anything else mixed within it.

Latest spec SN/GF5 rated oils are E85 compatable see here

http://www.oilspecifications.org/articles/api-sn.php

SNFor 2011 and newer gasoline engine service

Introduced in October 2010 for 2011 and older vehicles, designed to provide improved high temperature deposit protection for pistons, more stringent sludge control, and seal compatibility. API SN with Resource Conserving matches ILSAC GF-5 by combining API SN performance with improved fuel economy, turbocharger protection, emission control system compatibility, and protection of engines operating on ethanol-containing fuels up to E85.

It's not some station, it's the one in perris that charge 3.7x for gallon of e85.
I been driving 30min to next city for e85 just out of anger.
