JBL Premium Audio and Aftermarket Player
Hi,
I have the JBL Premium Audio system with external amplifier. Tried to install an aftermarket player today with a regular 10+6pin to ISO adapter. No sound. What kind of wireing do I need to get the aftermarket player to work? |
The Toyota JBL system in Europe requires a 12V turn-on signal, at pin #9 of the 10-pin power/speaker harness. GT86 models without JBL do not have a wire there.

I will be at port in Bergen, by the start of March, unless we get more cargo runs, if you need some help with measuring and so on :) |
Me and Teclis had a session today and it appears to be correct like SVXdc says. The JBL system has a 12V activation signal for the amplifier on the 10 pin connector. Adding 12V to the white wire made the amplifier happy!
My standard Toyota to ISO adapter did not have this wire installed. |
Excellent news, good work :-)
Do you also have the funny looking sub in the boot? If so, how do you like it? |

Eventually, I'll go for a completely custom install. Just need to sort out shit like rattling doors :) |

I'm asking because I ordered my first GT86 with the JBL system and it got butchered when the dealer (Toyota Økern) installed it. One problem was the woofer, you could barely hear it by opening the trunk and sticking your head inside. I've always imagined the JBL system sounds quite nice if installed correctly. (I eventually returned the car, full refund (long story) and bought another without any dealer options) |
