XXR 530 GLOSS Black
I love the XXR 530's for price and style but I really want gloss black. I've done a little searching for if it is possible to turn matte into gloss but not having much luck. I was thinking you could maybe just clearcoat these (professionally)? Some people were saying you could just take a good polishing compound with an electric polisher.
My last resort would be powdercoating. If I went this route could I just pick up a used set that were any color? Or would it be smarter to get a new matte black set to make the powdercoating process easier..and possibly cheaper for me? |
I don't know about the cost of powdercoating, but I feel like if you ended up there, a similar wheel already in gloss black would be less expensive!
Clearcoating might help a bit, but it still probably wouldn't be as glossy as you'd want. |

ohhhh, I didn't realize those were concave!
They have 530s in 'chromium black,' it's glossy, but not really a true black :S |
Considering how cheap those wheels are just buy a new set.

personally... id buy a real set of wheels and have them powdercoated. xxr's will break and then you have to spend money on a new wheel and then get it powdercoated again..... real wheels are less likely to brand, break at the center of the wheel................ but thats just my personal opinion

Breaking common? No. Many people run them and Chances are they won't break on you. However, there is a reason they cost so little. XXR Rims are HEAVY. It baffles me that people buy a FRS/BRZ because of its great driving dynamics and proceed to slap on some of the cheapest wheels around and simply ruin the handling characteristics of the car. I'll admit I think XXR rims look good too, would I ever put them on my car? No. I would find a quality wheel in the style and finish you like, powder coat if necessary. This way your not spending money to make your car slower and less fun to drive.
