5th gear vibration in Shifter - anyone else?

Allo folks..

Wondering if anyone is/has experienced a vibration when shifting into 5th gear?

If i'm driving along in 5th, and push the gear shifter to the upper right (where 5th is located) i get an almost grinding of the gears - as though the synchros weren't properly lining up or something. When released of pressure, the vibration disappears, but I have a feeling the linkage or something is not setup correctly (also happens when shifting into 5th).

anyone else experience this?

This is in a 2016 fr-s (never experienced this in my 2013).

I have a 2016 and dont have that issue, but ive noticed that when the car is still a bit cold the gears dont shift as smoothly, once it warms up its smooth as silk (gear oil warming up). Whats the ambient temp where u live?

U said uve driven a 2013 and this 2016 gear feels different?

Oh that's definitely a thing for all of our cars... much happier when it's warm for sure. I'm in Vancouver, BC Canada.. it's around 8°C now. My issue is vibration felt through the shifter when it's moved to the 5th gear position (or pushed to the upper right quadrant when in 5th) - this occurs even when it's warmed up.

The gears (in terms of ratio, smoothness, etc.) feel the same. The vibration in 5th gear is not something i experienced in my 2013.

My suspicion is that a linkage is not adjusted correctly or something else is going on, unless it's common across many cars. It doesn't grind per-se, just a tad annoying.

To the best of my knowledge there isn't an adjustment for the linkage on the FRS MT.

However, my knowledge is limited .... as I'm sure, will be pointed out by others .....:slap:

So, why are you pushing on the gear lever, when it's in the 5th gear position .... when it's already in gear ...... ??

Just curious .... :iono:

Dunno Eso it took me a while to get used to the gears in the gt even though ive driven a lot of manuals before, sometimes it felt a bit awkward but once you get used to it its fine.

Heh, well you know it's like when you have an itch and you have to scratch it... :)

Joking aside, I can feel it during the normal action of shifting, which was the concern. I included the information about feeling it when i push to the top right in case it was relevant.. pushing in any other direction does not produce the vibration.

It's very likely not an issue, was just curious if anyone else had it.. if the linkage can't be adjusted, i'll likely have to live with it.

another tidbit.. i only feel it under load. If i'm decelerating in fifth, there's no vibration (even when pushing to the top right).

hmmmm.......the next time I get up to 5th gear, I'll check out my transmission to see if it will do that.......:)
