OK I am sold I will do this, if I get a FR-S but damn are they still $800 per light?

Dragon86 06-26-2012 06:32 PM

Do you need that many turn signals lol?

Bu-Tang 06-26-2012 06:52 PM

Im wondering what the total price is to swap it, Cause the BRZ have adjustable levelling and well as the highbeams are built in with the lows right? so we would have to get the Sensor, ECU, possibly a harness or rewire, and then im not sure if we would have to obtain the factory HID set-up or if we would run after-market HID kits.

Theres that Subaru parts website that sells the Headlamp assembly for like 500US a pc,
Converting to the BRZ headlamps still will be much cheaper than the GT-86 route.
Hopefully someone does the swap soon and posts a writeup. :D

If it costs that much, if you're in the market for one and want to do this, might as well just get a BRZ. Unless some place is giving these headlights away for free.

Considering that nobody else on the road uses theirs anymore, yes... I have to pick up the slack and do double-turn-signal duty for everyone. :D

Amen. I find CA drivers to be particularly inadept at this.

Why are these not an option on the FRS? Those look great! I'm on the BRZ boat at the moment, but those could get me to switch. It will be a while anyways I guess since it is almost impossible to get a BRZ these days...Maybe they will offer them by then.

Obviously there are certain visual distinctions between the FR-S and the BRZ that Toyota/Scion and Subaru want to maintain, and this is one aspect where it's a completely different unit, not just the same thing but with HIDs instead of halogens projectors.

Besides, the approach of Scion has generally been the offering of one trim level for each model, with the main options only being the transmissions with little options like the rear bumper protector or whatever that can easily be added on after it leaves the assembly line. Having HIDs as an option is going to be a more significant change.

Yes, but it's a manual leveling system, which is not very complex. Much easier to setup than an auto-leveling system like the Toyota 86 lights have.

Yes, they are Bi-xenon, however that's not all that big of a deal to wire up. The wires that were going to the high beam bulb before just need to get rerouted to the solenoid.

There are no sensors or ECU's, you would need the headlights and the leveling switch, then you'd need to rewire a few things to get it all working nicely.

You'd need a factory-type HID setup, but there are aftermarket companies that sell D4S bulbs. You'd probably/definitely want to go with the correct Subaru ballasts though.

That website's price didn't include the ballasts, bulbs, etc. The price given by places like Carson Toyota was for complete headlights with all the parts like the ballasts, so the prices aren't directly comparable.

I'd rather buy the BRZ and get the FR-S bumper than the other way around.
the BRZ has so much more value and with Scion's fix price you can probably get it cheaper than the FRS.
