Has anyone here had an engine failure? Replacement cost?

Just curious to see if anyone on here has had an engine failure? A friend of mine's FRS engine failed due to driving it too hard on the track. Given that WRX/STi engine track related failures are common, is it also the case with FRS/BRZ engines? How much would a re-build or new engine cost? Just curious since I track my BRZ a lot.

Im curious why the engine blew out since it has a cutoff at 7400 rpm. Did he mess with the engine or cutoff?

I remember reading somewhere that Toyota quote 23,000 dollars for a long block. I'm sure it was pure BS but idk. Is your friend under any kind of warranty still?

23k!? The car itself is like 25k....

I know lol then some other guy chimed in on same thread and said he'd post his invoice for it and it was 19k or something. I don't think he actually posted it so that's why I said it was probably BS. But with dealer labor rates at like 140-150/hr, shot gets expensive paying out of pocket.

you can probably find a motor for like 2-4k used

Used engines $2-3k

New short block $2k
New Heads $900 each

Complete Gasket set I want to say like $600

Main Bearing set $250
Crank $600
Rod Bearings $170
Single Rod and Piston $200 Each

Complete engine from Subaru is $5800

Rebuild will have additional costs like machining, gaskets, RTV I am just throwing out the numbers I know off the top of my head. This is just Parts costs not Labor and these blocks are labor intensive and slow assembly

That is only one part of the equation. There are many ways to destroy an engine.

I want to know what this "engine failure" is?
Spun rod bearing
Rocker shot through the valve cover?
