To buy or not to buy?
I was about to get an 86 last week but somebody purchased it already just a couple of hours before my bank loan got approved. Now they're telling me that I have to order and wait for a minimum of 90 days for a new car to arrive from Japan.
I just read somewhere that the 86 is due for a face lift around April next year so now I'm having second thoughts if I'll proceed with the order and wait for more than 3 months. Are these stories true or just a hoax? Thanks! |
What if the facelifted one is super ugly, and the current one is the one you want but is then sold out because everyone else also wants it? Best to buy two now so that you have a spare.

I can guarantee that anything that makes front page (the facelift and buttlift) is in fact legitimate news. Whether or not it is for next year's model... I'm not sure.
I would just get a GT86 now while I can. Unless that facelift means a lot to you, there's not really any point in waiting. |
Why not get the new black addition, it's pretty sweet.

I have a 2016 model on the reg. Its pretty much the same except for a trd kit that came with it, leather, push start, nav, cruise control in a manual(which I love), was seriously thinking of auto just for auto cruise. Pretty much same car as far as I can tell.

If it's just the front/rear clip that change, what about buying the car now to enjoy until the new ones start hitting the road. Once you see the new ones in person, if you REALLY like the change, maybe you can just buy those bumper covers and install them on your car. There's also a large aftermarket of pieces to do exactly that if you want a change from stock.

There's always something new on the horizon. If I waited for the turbo / sti version that the internet swore was coming shortly after the launch of the normal version, I'd still be driving the xb I traded in for the FR-S.
If the car offered today is what you want today, buy it. You may need room for a child seat by the time there's a newer version available. -Justin |
That ^

Just get a slightly used one - like 10k miles or less. The money you save over buying new will allow you to mod it beyond whatever sort of facelift they're coming out with.

Facelift is coming... just sayin'
It doesn't hurt to see the facelift ver, if you like it, wait more. If you don't like it, order the current model. Simple as that |
Lets say they do release a turbo vers after buying a used gt id bet my bottom dollar that it will be the same engine with a turbo which means we can easily buy a factory released turbo to install, and how much would that cost? Knowing Toyota not a lot id say. Ill also bet that any upgrades they do will be on the same engine it will be a matter of buying them and fitting them.

Don't buy it. Wait for the facelift. Once that comes out, don't buy it either. Wait for the turbo. Wait indefinitely. Build strong calf muscles from walking.
