Well this happened

Last Wednesday I was involved in a wreck in my 2013 Brz. I have had the car for less than a month and already have done some serious damage to it. I was changing lanes at about 45 mph, I had my signal on for at least 150 ft before I changed lanes. A woman was accelerating much faster than I expected her to be (doing over the speed limit) and clipped my right rear as I was changing lanes. They gave me the ticket for unsafe lane change as I have no way of proving how fast she was doing even though she admitted she as accelerating. I was just wondering how much do you think this is going to cost me? Sorry if this is in the wrong place. Insurance is covering this obviously and the air bags deployed. I'm worried that the car will never be the same if it is repaired.

Jesus... how quickly do you change lanes?! You set the airbag off and everything... That's a lot of damage for a lane change collision! If I were to blindly change lanes into someone it wouldn't be more than a light bump, at best, lol.

It wasn't a fast lane change at all I was mid change when she hit me she was doing well over 50mph at least and the car spun at least 720 into the lot off the road on the right. I was surprised that the airbag went off as well as it seemed like such a low force impact. I also didn't blindly change lanes I checked the blind spot at least twice she was just in such a huge hurry

You're going to have to check with the adjuster on that. It could be anywhere from $3000 to a write-off.

Long story short: take it to who your insurance wants you to, get it quoted, ask for the money, and take it to the best shop you can. My '13 CRZ was never the same afterwards because the shop was garbage and I got tired of taking it back for them to get it right (granted a normal person wouldn't care as much about a mm off here and a paint fleck there). If you care to read , this same accident happened to me in April this year. Checked the right lane, no one but a truck way back. Turned on my signal, cleared the intersection, and went to change lanes. I get clipped by a guy in a pos Impala that decided to change lanes behind me and try to accelerate past me, ignoring the fact that I was signaling and waiting to change after the intersection. Even the cop said his story didn't add up, but because there was no way to prove anything, we both got tickets and I was put more at fault... He probably didn't even get the car repaired considering his bumpers were already hanging off and his driver side door was smashed in (which he also tried to blame on me, but the cop acknowledged there was no way it could've happened). His story was he honked at me, but I changed lanes anyway. Cop asked him if he had time to honk, why didn't he brake. He said I changed lanes too fast, at "I don't know, like 35(mph)"... Cop gives him a look, then he magically needs a translator because he's confused after cussing me out in perfect English right after the accident. Then he shows up in court for his ticket with a lawyer. Once he realizes the judge isn't falling for his BS, he starts mumbling so much his lawyer (who speaks his language) can't even understand him. Judge dismisses my ticket, but insurance doesn't care about that... The system works.

Totaled. I'm not joking.

About that unsafe lane change, I recall another forum member who was in the position of the car that struck you. He was also driving straight and struck a car making a lane change. The police cited the other driver for unsafe lane change and said something along the lines of "I don't care if he was doing 100 MPH, you still need to look out." The same reasoning could be applied here.

From what I read, it seems as if you misjudged the rate of speed she was going. Honestly, I'd be pissed knowing she was speeding and received no citation, but couldn't you have noticed how fast she was going in your passenger rear view mirror?

This sucks. I hope you get your car fixed just the way it was before. I'm always worried about changing lane in my BRZ as it sits low and have lots of blind spot.

Mine got side swiped while parked on the street. The adjuster quoted it at $5600.

Its fixable, but now you're upside down in a brand new car with diminished value and it will most likely always have some kind of issue you notice.

That sucks. It should only cost you your deductible and the insurance spike really.

its a little late but i'd suggest always setting your sideview mirrors way past how most people set them. if you set them so that as you scan the rearview and hit the end of either side, you pick up immediately at that spot from your sideview, and at the moment your sideview stops as you scan forward, you should be able to see object at the edge of your peripheral vision, and repeat of the other side for basically a 360 degree view. this has saved my ass quite a few times, you don't need 3 rearview mirrors, you need to be able to see when someone is in or accelerating into your blind spot.

Looks like you were running from a Velociraptor and it clawed the side of your car...

I planned on keeping the car for its lifespan as I plan on going forced induction. I'm requesting Diminished value appraisal or whatever its called. Guess we will have to see I can't get my vehicle into the shop until almost Christmas as I work during the hours the shop is open

Man that is some serious damage for a "love tap."

It always cracks me up when you see people do that shit....speeding up when they see you indicating to change lanes...Those are typically the ones that cut you off and then immediately slow down to a minimum of 10 MPH under the speed limit. And they wonder why road rage is a thing...

Anyway, hope they fix it to like new...but it sucks because no matter what, you'll always see the damage. :(
