Backfire on BRZ?

I was driving home today and I down shifted from 4 to 3 and I heard a very loud pop. Not sure if it was something in my trunk or it was a backfire. It did sound like a backfire but I have a stock brz. Any ideas? thanks

Hi BRZSteve ...... :)

Our cars are so "thin skinned", the sound could have been from an object in the road that it kicked up .. ??

If it was a backfire, I wouldn't worry about it ...... if it doesn't do it often and/or if it didn't throw you a code.

Sometimes mine just "farts" that way ...... :sigh:

I can get mine to make a wicked backfire on super aggressive downshifts, but I am tuned and have a full catless exhaust so to me I think its just fuel burning off when it hits my headers.

That's sick:thumbup: I was confused why a stock car would backfire but its rare.

Yeah it is pretty cool, its a big enough backfire I am sure it shoot flames at night haha. I do find it happens more so when I am doing a hard downshift right before a corner and I am slowing down.

If you had a catted exhaust do you think you would still backfire?

Probably but it would not be nearly as loud. While we are on the topic of backfires I can also get mine to make a small burbly or slight poping sound when I am just barely on the gas while I am cruising. Its hard to hear over the normal exhaust tone but its there. Does yours do that?

It does make strange noises sometimes but havent heard this one. But "humfrz" was right saying our cars are thin skinned we here every sound that goes on.
