CEL and slip light come on together last week. ECU replaced. Lights back on in 50m.

So my check engine light and the traction control light came on last week a day after getting an oil change, as well as all of my other fluids changed. Don't know if it's related. Made an appointment with Toyota. P0016 and p0018. They replaced the ECU. Everything seems good. 50 miles later. Both lights back on. Made an appointment for tomorrow morning. Car is at 35,700 miles and this is the first issue I've had. Car is stock (2013) other than wheels and catback. Just want to know what kind of issue I'm facing here. I'm sure I'm not the first with this issue. I tried to search the forums for this issue but only found one short thread. Sorry is this is a repetitive question.

Cam position sensor problems likely.

02-132-12 : DTCs Relating to the AVCS (Active Valve Control System)
11-130-13R : Difficulty Starting, Rough Idle, Cam Position, Misfire

sometimes its adjust sensor clearance with shims sometimes cam sprocket replacement

they should also update your ECU calibration ID (ROM/TUNE) to ZA1JB01C or ZA1JB01D depending on auto (D)/manual (C)

So should I show them this thread since they couldn't figure that out? Haha jk

I had the exact same issue happen to me on Saturday. Was turning a corner (admittedly a bit spiritedly but nothing out of the norm) then bam: cel and slip light. I'm at 38k miles and also have a 2013. I wont be able to take it in until the holiday is over, but ill post on what the dealer ends up doing (or not doing).

46k miles on a 2013. I got P0018 on November 7th. Full engine back exhaust.

-Car went in on 11/09
-Updated to latest ECU, no luck
-Was told my warranty would not cover it (?? powetrain though)
-Called SoA, they talked to the dealership and told them to cover me
-Tried to swap over OCV's and sensors to isolate the issue, no luck, problem remained at the same sensor
-Left the dealership 5 hours later in a loaner car
-I literally moved to a different state on 11/12, car is still not ready
-Get a call on 11/16 saying the car can be picked up, cam gear was replaced as it was broken apparently
-I'll be able to pick up the car back in PA this wednesday night (LATE) (11/25)

I hope the issue is truly fixed. Especially for my 315 mile drive back to my new house.

Your dealer is a moron for initially saying warranty wouldn't cover the fix. This is why I call them stealerships...smh

Thanks for your replies so far. I have a small update for my car. Took it to the dealership this morning and just got a call. They are replacing two of the sensors and the service rep seemed confident that would solve the issue, but that doesn't mean much to me since they said the new ECU would help. Perhaps they have an order of operations, if you will, of troubleshooting and repairs they need to follow.

I'm really hoping it will fix everything. It is going to suck if they are overlooking a mechanical issue and more damage is being done by me driving the car without the real problem being fixed. I won't get it back til Wednesday the earliest, but most likely after turkey day according to the rep.

And good luck with your repairs as well. I've had minimal problems with this car to be honest. That said, I'll probably skip first generation models/major changes when I buy my next car. Seems like this is happens to a lot of 2013 models, even if we are only hearing the vocal minority.

I think it may have been a misunderstanding, or at least I'm willing to chalk it up to that, what can I say, I'm just desperate for a running car.

I initially showed them a TSB I found on the forums showing my exact code (P0018) as an indication of the issue. Unfortunately, the dealership could only view the revised version of the same TSB (12-132 if I recall correctly) and the revised version did not cover ANY of the P0015-P0018 codes (once again, if I remember correctly).

So I called SoA and told the gentleman on the phone exactly this and he pursued a search for the original TSB. That was when he called the dealership.

Honestly, I feel like a catalyst to me getting "good service" was that the gentleman at SoA could see from my phone number that I had two nearly new subaru's registered to my name as I bought a 2015 Forester last year. I think they just wanted to keep me happy.

I have to say though, moving 300 miles for a new job WITHOUT your car, has to be the most stressful thing I've experienced short of death of loved ones.

I have one of the very first 2013s in the states.

35k miles, not a single problem with the engine.

What's a CEL :-) [/sarcasm]

I hope that you get your car back and running perfectly...fingers crossed that there are no more issues

That's good news, it'll be a week for me now. I hope I get call tomorrow letting me know mine is fixed. I can't drive this rental Corolla much longer, haha.
