OFT OTS 91 vs. 93

Quick question; if I only have 92 octane gas available in my area, is it better to use the 91 OTS tune, or the 93? Does it even matter being 1 octane point off? I want to get the most performance out of it that I can, but obviously don"t want to damage the engine.
I'm at stage-1 no header yet BTW.

You could always mod the tune yourself to be somewhere in between. That said, the difference between the 91 and 93 tunes isn't enough to notice without a dyno. Your butt won't be any less happy if you just stuck with 91.

There isn't much difference between the 91 and 93 tune. Only above 6000rpm I believe. If you want to flash and forget take the 91, otherwise take the 93, log and edit to your liking. Somewhere on this forum is a videotut how to do this. Also read Steve99's and Wayno's topics for more info about adjusting Rom's.

if you want to be on the safe side, use the 91 tune. I am not sure about the actual power difference between the 91 and 93 tune, but you will give yourself some safe room to work with on the 91 tune.

I'd use a 93 tune. Your car will pull the appropriate timing out of your IAM. I'm running a custom 91 Oct tune on my 89 Oct e0.
I only have had problems in 2 areas which I've adjusted and now have an average IAM of 0.98

Alternatively, I can tune it for you if you'd like.

I have to admit I don't understand the finer points of tuning, IAM values, etc. Are you saying that you could create a 92 octane file?

riboyster 11-21-2015 10:02 PM

Sure. It'd involve you making log files for me though

SIM10 11-21-2015 10:23 PM

Thanks, that would be great. Unfortunately I live in a somewhat colder climate than you do and the BRZ is in storage for the winter. Does the offer stand until spring?

Sure just remind me!
