e-Diagnose knock/tapping? (w/Video)

Anyone care to lend expertise??

Situation: Hard acceleration into traffic, went through first and second gear.
Likely caused, or helped by oil not being up to significant operating temp, as I just left work.
No CEL produced, and car drove "normal", several miles home, but all while making this noise.
Stopped and started motor back up without issue.

Initial thought is valve tap, but there's plenty of smarter people on here than me. I'm savvy enough to do most things on my car, except for a total block rebuild (I'm smart enough to leave that to people with plenty of experience and the proper tools).

Thanks for your feedback!

Is that a supercharger I see ...... ??

If so, I'd suggest you put an ear on it (via a long screwdriver) to see if it is making the noise.

Nah. I've had one of those apart. Not the culprit. That's a blown rocker or a bent valve. Sounds like more than one.

Sounds like rod knock from a lower end problem that seems to happen way too often from oil starvation.

Sounds too high-pitched to be a rod knock to me-- sounds more like something in the head.

I thought so too but it has the characteristic double-whack sound. That's what turned me.

any updates? Take it to the dealer yet?? (wonder where the Op is...likely on the side of the road with a seized engine)

DIE1000DEATHS 11-18-2015 12:17 AM

Lol. Sorry guys. Hell no it has not gone to dealer. (Superchargers don't go over well) I haven't driven it since. I have been wanting to build the block as it is, as I have the Sprintex 335 kit and I expected to need it sooner or later. I just didn't know if any of you guys were super familiar with this. If it was for sure something in the head, I may delay the short block work.... Thanks eRRbody!

Are they the two whack sounds when the piston hits the dropped valve on the compression stroke and then again on the exhaust stroke ....... :eyebulge:

Dammit, when am I gonna learn not to change my answers. If I waffled any more I'd be breakfast. Went back and listened to a bunch of rod bearing vids. I'm full of shit.
