CarPlay question

Is there a CarPlay unit that also works with the satnav/sdcard that is built in to the brz?

Unfortunately no. To get the CarPlay feature one would have to upgrade to a newer aftermarket headunit such as this one http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500ILX0...7.html?tp=5684

Thanks. I'm still trying to figure out what's the difference between using "hey Siri" on my iPhone and CarPlay.

I've had a CarPlay head unit for nearly a year. Not really used the feature much. It will open up apple maps and turn by turn guide, which I might add works really well.

My head unit has a button for activating Siri and then it works fine over blue tooth. Again I only use it for fast dialling a contact.

CarPlay still syncs to the phone. It uses the Siri on the phone and not its own if that makes sense.

Yeah thanks. So it's not much different than using "hey Siri" on my phone really. I have a '15 BRZ sport-tech and Siri works well with the stock unit except when I get a phone call it doesn't go to the car speakers, I have to manually change the output in the phone to the car speakers.

That one thing alone would drive me up the wall. Is there some setting you need to fiddle with on the head unit, to enable it to auto answer and pump through the car audio? Seems odd as that's the way all head units (with Bluetooth) normally work?

My initial intention behind buying the CarPlay head unit was to kinda future proof myself by being able to update firmware and take advantage of new CarPlay apps as they are released, but development of apps has been slow and, to be honest those released so far do not gel with the way I use a head unit.

Rather than paying for the expensive dealer fitted unit I decided to instead add a little extra on top and go for a full rip put and replace with speakers, amp, head unit and reversing camera. Though it was a little dearer I ended up with much more functionality and better sound quality.

One huge detraction from CarPlay is the need to physically plug your phone in. CarPlay does not work through Bluetooth.

yeah my last car did it just fine with the same phone so I always thought it odd. I'll review the book and if all else fails, ask the dealer!

Really? I guess that you must be using your phone for Siri then? Because with the phone plugged in I can just say "hey Siri"... Can get her to make calls, read and answer emails and texts, take me places etc.
