After my trip to Maui, I realized something
almost everybody on the mainland is doing it wrong.
- always in a rush - everybody is too focused on their work/career in Maui, everyone is so relaxed and just enjoying everything and their surroundings. after the trip, everyone who went is pretty much broken after coming home lol. look at Europe even, their work hours are way less. I think only Canada and the USA have 40 hours as the standard work week, with most people exceeding 40. not sure why I'm making this thread. I guess to remind everyone to take it easy and enjoy life and don't make it about your work and don't get pissed off at minor things. anyway, Maui is awesome |
Yup I say let's move to Europe or the islands ftw🙌🏽
I'll give you the rice noodle😘 |
I work to live, I don't live to work!
I've had that motto most all my live. A lob is just to provide resources (money) so that I may enjoy my personal life to the fullest extent that I choose. |
Or, just another theory.....like the percentage of people in Hawaii at any given time that are either on vacation, or are part of the tourism industry...
Per the 2010 census, Hawaii has 1,360,301 residents. Per their tourism council, around that same time they had 7,627,819 visitors per year that spent an average of 9.19 days on the islands. So, if you convert that to "People days" (multiply the number of residents by 365, and the number of tourists by 9.19) on any given day 1 in 7 people in Hawaii are on vacation. if you are also on vacation, it is very likely that the ratio where you are is even higher, and most of the folks you are interacting with are in the tourist industry where "being happy" is a way of life to be successful. Just a thought.... Now that said, I only work so I can afford vacation so I'm right there with you. |
Island life seems great...
But then you realize... -you don't like spam THAT much. -you are sick of living 10 to a house because everyone works part time and surfs full time. -you like material possessions like cars, phones, shoes. -everything is inflated in price compared to the mainland. -you like being able to afford to buy things. |

Most people can't hack it living in Hawaii. Too expensive. Not enough work. Work pays too little. If you're going to move to Hawaii, don't pack a shipping container full of stuff. Just buy a buy a bunch of used crap off craigslist from all the people moving back to the mainland. Actually talk to real Hawaiins. They mostly complain about how little money and few job prospects they have.
My **** cousins moved to Oahu. Now they're moving back. Idiots. Costco is cheap, though. Gas is California expensive, but not Europe expensive. Living in Hawaii is like paying Bay Area expenses on Alabama salaries. Good place to retire to, though. If you can swing it. |
