Could be nothing. Is it common to submit patents for concepts with no shot of production?

Yes. I read once that some where around 5% of the patents filed ever get made.

They're probably just filing the patent for their old BRZ STI concept car (the one pictured in the article) so no other company can make a car or a body kit that looks like it. Just a typical corporation protecting their intellectual assets.

LOOK
When you guys link these threads can you at least copy and paste the text? Otherwise every one of us that goes to read the fiction gives them another click and perpetuates the issue. They are slow on news now and grasping at straws for every click they can get and I for one do not wish to support them.

absolutely common. people patent shit that is physically impossible with today's technology in the hopes that it becomes feasible some day.

Ok thanks guys. My apologies, I was searching for a jalop article before I made this thread. Forgot that autoguide was the OG post.

Patent hounds or trolls, some companies seriously run a business on this, they make patents for ideas just in a concept phase and go no further just to increase there stock shares and stir interest, and just wait to litigate people for a "stolen" idea and go up them begging for a license fee for less than it would cost to go to court, but in the end litigation is the best answer for the person being trolled.

Without the relevant claims, those drawings have no meaning. The written claims at the end of the patent are what patent protection is being asked for.

Its a car entertainment site, but not trustworthy for the most part.

Like Car and Driver, Autoblog, AutoNews and a couple of others that once upon a time were reliable news sites but lost all journalistic integrity someplace along the way in their search for clicks.

To be fair, in the article they did acknowledge that patent filings are mostly meaningless.

Yes they did which just begs the question of why they published the article in the first place? Just because the clickbaits did first? Nothing else to write about?
"This, that, the other thing and oh by the way it really doesn't mean much"
