Resale higher than expected?

I have had my eye on the BRZ/FRS for some time.... although I prefer the BRZ I could not stomach the $30,000+ price tag for a new one up here in Canada. I figured the whole time I would wait it out and grab one for about 1/2 that price in a few years.


These days from my searches it seems the average asking price is still $22-24k for a used 2013 across Canada.


I'd imagine these used units might drop like a rock when the next generation comes out, but I have to say I thought I would see these cars now selling used in the high Teens especially with turn over rate of ownership and gripes with the platform. Neither of which concern me or would stop me from buying.

They seem to be creeping up yes. When I bought mine last year they had two 13s on the lot. One was pretty nice and priced at $22K the other was pretty rough and priced at $19K. Now the cheapest I have seen tend to run $22K and up to almost new prices.

The refresh could go either way on used prices. If it is great they will plummet. If it sucks they will go through the roof. And of course if it is relatively unchanged then it will have little impact of used prices at all.

Not sure what they have in Canada, but U.S. Subaru has a guaranteed trade-in value program if traded in towards the purchase of a newer Subaru, which keeps BRZ prices higher.

Considering there are only roughly 2,500 BRZs in Canada to start with the value is already artificially high for resale. I could find no reference to any such program in Canada but it could be at the individual dealer level and I am to lazy to start checking all them out.

Out of curiosity are RWD sports cars common or rare in Canada?

More common then you would expect but the SUV and pickup still rule in many areas. Of course with our much lower population the number of all vehicles including sports cars is lower but per capita I would say it is on par with most of the northern States.

Yeah used BRZ's are going for around 22k but you can find a frs for under 18k if you don't mind less luxuries. Or get one that was in a small fender bender and I've seen some go for 17-18k for a brz and less than 15k for a frs

Looks like resale values are pretty good up in Canada. I'm currently looking into a brand-new BRZ (15 or 16). I found out that residual values for a 15 BRZ are 48%, and a 16 BRZ are 54%, both for 3yr/30k miles. Not particularly high resale values for a lease.

As an example, if you lease a 15 BRZ stickered at 27,000 => In 3 years and 30k miles later, the residual is 12,960. You can buy it out for that price then. A 16 BRZ stickered for the same would have a residual of 14,580. That's what you can buy it for at the end of the lease.

Nope, not common. Canadian car culture is shit. Good luck finding a used car in manual. It's rare. Same with rear wheel drive. People drive slow as fuck, duno how to change lanes, duno where the fuck they going then dart across from the left turn lane to the right turn lane or vice versa. We have the longest highway on ramps ever and people still merge well below the flow of traffic. These people would die instantly on New York highways

I live in an Asian neighborhood and it's a bit better since we grew up watching Initial D. There are lots of FR-S/BRZ's, genesis coupes and modded import cars in general with the early 20's Asian crowd. But the older crowd is all Corrollas and Camrys. Even the BMWs are all automatic and xdrives.

America's Worst Driver was like one season or something. Canada's Worst Driver is 11 seasons and going strong. And they'll never run out of candidates.

Unless I'm missing the part of the ad where they didn't remove the prior owners feces or something.

Subaru of Monterey, I think... had BRZ 2013 for $20.5k. Red BRZ. 6mt with 16k miles, the trim with seat warmers.

They are about 2-3k more than a FRS but not much more (used). If you want a BRZ, or any newish model of a vehicle wait until February for a used one or new one in October/November.

Our sports cars around here (Alberta) are 1000hp jacked up trucks ... we call them Rig Rockets... I'm not joking either, just about everyone and their dog owns one, whether they need a truck or not, whether they work at the remote oil rigs or not too. And I'm not joking on the power output, boosted diesels some outfitted with Stacks coming out of the bed like a Semi......

He's in Canadia. Their market and dollar valuation are completely different than here in the US. When he says $30k there for new it would be $27k USD. Likewise when he says used are 22-24 that's 19.5-21 here.
