Any way to turn off display?

When driving at night the little screen is distracting me, is there way to make it go black? Totally black not audio off black

Hold "Audio" button for ~3 sec, press turn off display. The display only turns on if you adjust the sound (lights up to a mostly black screen for a few seconds) or press one of the physical buttons (resumes normal display mode).

Nice! I also wondered about this. I'm trying this tomorrow.

For those who don't realize it, pressing the Audio button as described above also gives you the option of changing the screen brightness and manually switching to "day" or "night" mode. For example, if you're driving in the rain during the day and turn your headlights on (as required in some states), the screen will dim to night mode so that it's difficult to see. You can override that by going into that display screen and turning it back to day.

No shit?.. And to think, this whole time I've been doing it by going through all the menus like a chump.

I couldn't find that in the manual. If it's there, I missed it. If you look, you can see that it says "DISP" above the button, but they didn't bother to tell us how to access that function.

I found it by accident. I had pushed the Audio button to switch back from the map as I was going over some rough road, and it looked like the faceplate flexed under my finger. I was pushing on it to confirm it was actually flexing, and suddenly the screen changed. So I guess I should thank Subaru for the shitty build quality leading me to a solution to a completely different problem.

Just tried it at lunch, can confirm it works as previously stated.

There is also the option of the cluster brightness control knob on the panel to the left of the sterring wheel. If you turn it all the way bright past the click it turns on day time brightness with the headlights on.

This was a big one for me. Took a few months of ungodly driving at night with day radio until i figured it out.

carma143 11-10-2015 09:37 PM

Ever drive at night with the daytime brightness mode? Ruined my whole day (or would that be night)

There are also "secret" menus that can be triggered with pressing various combinations of the three buttons.

Doing the pattern backwards brings up yet another menu.
