blower motor
Had to order a heater fan (blower) motor today. My car has ~85,000 kms (53,000 miles) on it and the blower motor is getting noisy. Anyone else have this issue yet? List price at my local Toyota/Scion dealer is $221 just for the part. The Subaru dealer next door wants $174. Bear in mind this is Canadian $...everything costs more up here. On the bright side, it looks like it will only take me 10 minutes to change it.

Well, at least it didn't go out in the dead of winter along here .....:)

Have you tried cleaning it? It could be dust causing it to be out of balance. Oh well, you already ordered a new one. It does seem early though... usually blowers last the life of the car.

Yes. I took it out about 3 weeks ago when the noise first started. At first I thought maybe a leaf or something made it's way down in there, but I wasn't that lucky. The sound went away when I put it back together, but came back louder than ever this past weekend. |

It is brutal as soon as it crosses the boarder. Shipping New York to LA - $10 Shipping Detroit to Windsor (About 2 miles) $150 |

The exchange rate is brutal right now as well. That $135 U.S. price would probably cost me $170-$180 Canadian just to purchase, and then add shipping/brokerage, tax, etc. on top of that. Ouch.
Thanks for taking the time to post the links though. Oh, and the time to change it is confirmed... 10-15 minutes. Silence is good. |

Anyone else have this issue?
My car is at 55k miles, blower motor also really noisy, beginning to sound like a trend here. If our warranty is for 60k, does this constitute as "replace under warranty"? Guru's of the 86 platform, please chime in. |
If you want to take a chance, you can buy a used one pulled from a salvaged BRZ off Ebay for like $50

You can try and see if they'll warranty it. |

While you had it out did you try a little lubrication? Light oil is recommended for electric motors but if the bushing surface is already shot then STP or Lucus will often work. The back bushing is often covered and a very small whole can be drilled in the cover.
