My foot slips off the clutch

The FRS is my first manual car, I got it in around may. Recently it has been raining hard like everyday and sometimes when I press down on the clutch my foot just happens to slip off. Am I pressing it wrong? Am I positioned wrong? Should I just drive with cleats or something? Jk but seriously, anyone else have this issue?

I apologize ahead of time if I sound retarded, I'm still fairly new to driving with a 3rd pedal.

Have you tried different shoes?

Yea, all my shoes slip off with the exceptions of one pair but it's inconvient to buy shoes based on whether or not its compatible with my clutch pedal on rainy days.

I had same issue lol my pickup has rubber grip, frs has plastic.

I now use up to my inner arch when wet. Normally just use big toes and tad of toe mound.

Just use more of your foot or scoot in. If that still fails, get something like cusco (?) grip pedals.

was ur shoes...wet? O.o

let it dry before you drive.

Time to get a pair of driving shoes.

maybe keep a small towel in your car and dry your feet off a bit before driving. I've considered it, but only because the sound of my shoes squeaking on the pedals hurts my soul.

The Cusco grips look really nice! I might have to save up for some.

I haven't had that issue with the brz yet, but I have in other cars with pedals of this type when they get a lot of use on them. I put Autovation pedals with the grid pattern on the brake and clutch on a couple of other cars and will probably do the same for this one.

bhmax 11-09-2015 10:48 AM

Actually I don't see our cars on the Autovation site, but the SRP pedals look like the same thing.

I don't think I have ever had my foot slip off any clutch in any car. How does that even happen?

Perhaps you are sitting too far back.

*sigh*

Alright then. I get where you're coming from OP, I've had my feet slip off the pedals too, however I quickly realized it was my own sloppiness, never thought to post on a forum.

Your foot should follow the pedal line of action, it is a straight line forward and back, the ball of your foot should be centered on the pedal, there is no reason your foot should move left to right on the pedal or your foot should be tilted at an angle so only one edge of your foot is on it.

I've heard some people keep their heel on the floor of the car and pivot their foot, that may work in some cars but if you're rotating your foot around at weird angles to keep your heel planted I can see slippage occurring constantly in this car. Lift the heel off the floor, hang your foot in the air, your foot should push the pedal straight in and let the pedal straight out. As has been said you should be able to comfortably push the pedal too the floor and still have a bend in your leg, you should be able to push the pedal even further than that (although you'd just be bending things). This applies too all pedals in all vehicles until further notice.

Here is a potentially educational video:
