Need a Good Exhaust Guy in Coburg, Melbourne area.

I'm after a reputable exhaust fitter/builder in the north of Melbourne in the Coburg area.

Has to be experienced with the FT86.

Oh and MUST talk sense.

I want a 3rd O2 sensor bung installed in either my Tomei Headers or the overpipe. Might as well get the headers installed as well I'm guess while they're at it.

I 've just spent valuable time being told that if I install my Tomei stainless headers the following will happen:

1. They will crack in a couple of weeks becuse stainless is no good for headers.
2. Because I'm eliminating a header cat the car will run rich and eventually won't run at all.
3. The car will be ridiculously loud due to the cat being eliminated.

Mind you this guy had never heard of the 86 or BRZ when I walked in told him what car I wanted a price for but then remembered he'd made a full OP back mandrel bent tailor made exhaust for one.

There were a couple more things that were going to destroy the car but I'd lost interst by this time!!!

If #1 were true there would be no S/S headers on the market & it hardly makes any difference to the output sound if stock exhaust.

Please let me know if you come across someone with BR86 exhaust experience, I wanna get one specially made but not ready yet.

These guys were recommended to me. Seem to be well respected for their work. Just a little far for me to travel for the relatively basic job I want done.

Where the $#!* is keysborough ?

Glenroy are supposedly good but when I asked them about my 86 their reply was "what model is it?" . . . . :mad0259:

HiTech Headers / Exhausts are highly rec to me, have spoken to Duane there - nice bloke knows his shit & owns the joint, I have mentally penciled him to do the work when I get some coin saved up.

why do you want 3rd 02 sensor bung ? wideband ?

the front o2 sensor is quite a reasnoble wideband and can be rescaled in tune to read down to 10 afr quite reliably

ztan rescaled it against his wideband aftermarket sensor

quick software tweak saves you heaps of time and money :-)

see tune tweaks link below

Innovate wide band install. Thanks, you've convinced me.. I'll leave it as it is.

Sunshine is a bit closer and easier to get to... I might go and see what they can do for my exhaust...

I have the Nameless 2.5" AB with the 4" straight thru mufflers and the Nameless FP with helmholtz and it's a great exhaust just driones too much.

Make sure you stipulate you dont want drone... Becomes very tiring after a while.

Sometimes i just fit the OEM on for some quiet..

note you need to change both the A & B 02 scaling tables and also note both the mA and AFR values are changed ie both lines of both tables and you need to alter the rich limit table as well :-)

Yep that's exactly what I have atm - stock ! I intend on keeping the stocky & have him build a new cat back that's deep rumble but very quiet. He initially planned on a AB but I reckon it will be too loud, we'll see.

So where are you at re your header back? After fitting my Tomei UEL I'm back to the OEM AB. Nice and quiet but on hearing super quiet note I get a "Why'd I bother spending $1500+ on headers, OP, coating and assorted bits for a car that sounds 95% stock!".

I know you were after the STI AB but if you've gone off that idea and have a guy who can build a cat back, as you mentioned, to specs he may do two at a reduced rate..

Would the STI design be that difficult to replicate?

Two x 400mm x 90mm round resonators mounted east/west side by side > 2 pipes to current cutouts. 1.5 mtrs of 2.5" or 3" stainless + 2 x 90mm polished tailpipes. And a mandrel pipe bender of course.

I have the Nameless off the car he can use for measurements and alignment.

ZZT86 05-24-2016 09:09 AM

I have tracked down the STI part so I will soon be able to tell you exactly what that sounds like on my car, rest is stock as you know ;) I'll text you when it's all done so you can have a listen if you like ? BTW I reckon Hi-Tech could produce just about anything given time & $$.

Links to pics if you're able to supply... YouTube vid?

Delete ref. Located on YouTube. Looks and sounds the biz.. Let's know when you've got it installed and making some noise.
