TCS and slippage
Hey, I am not sure where to post this but recently my FRS has been driving really strange, it seems to have developed a wobble while traveling faster than 50MPH.
Whenever I turn it seems to catch, buck and turn extra sharp or wobbles through turns. It holds true going straight until a certain speed then occasionally wobbles but while going through turns, even if I go slow the car feels like it slips and the TCS kicks in, I can even take a corner at 25MPH and the tail will kick out, shake and TCS kicks in. Any small bump i hit in the road TCS will go crazy. I recently replaced the tires but this started happening just before I replaced the tires and is continuing with the new tires. Does anyone have any ideas? |
Wheel speed sensor??
|
Would the ABS light be on if the wheel speed sensor is damaged?
I do have TPMS light on, even though the tire pressure is fine. |
True for the ABS light. Probably wrong sensors in your new tires or they need to be programed
|
thank you for your quick replies. Does the wrong sensor cause it to go a bit crazy like that? It has been a little scary to drive with TCS going crazy and turning being somewhat unpredictable.
|
Yeah there are like 4 main TPMS types if I remeber right but not all work with all cars. It would only effect the TPM light on that dash and nothing else though.
I am off for lunch so no more quick responses haha. I hope someone else can chime in. |
have you replaced your steering wheel and not orient the clock spring correctly? when was the last time you got an alignment? have you done any suspension work? check for loose bolts on suspension parts.

Steering wheel has not been replaced but I think it has been a while since I have had an alignment, the last time I went to Toyota, about 5 months ago they did an inspection and said everything was good. No suspension work has been done but I also suspect that it is a possibility. I recently got a new job where I drive over very rough road on my way to work, it is almost like driving on rocks  I try to take it slow. |

http://aa1car.com/library/wss.jpg Check the connector, the sensor ring, and the wire for damage (on all 4 corners). Since you're driving on bad roads, it's possible that you kicked a rock into that area and damaged something. It's also pretty likely that your alignment has been thrown off. |
Perhaps a loose ball joint or some other suspension component. See if you can get an alignment or inspection at a shop with a good reputation for performance alignments and suspension work. Where are you located?
|
Don't guess on this one, just go to the dealer and have them diagnose it.
