So I went to Subaru's Japanese site, and saw it's teasing a shot of the Subaru version of the FT86... pretty sure this hasn't been posted yet since it just went up. Image confirms it will be RWD.

Teaser site here:

PDF in Japanese here (which just says it'll later show press conference info)

Tokyo, February 22, 2011 - Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the maker of Subaru automobiles, today announced the opening of a special website for the 81st Geneva Motor Show (Press day: March 1 and 2; Open to the public from March 3 through 13, 2011). FHI will also release a teaser image of its "BOXER Sports Car Architecture", a technology exhibit initially referred to as "Subaru Rear-Wheel Drive Sports Car Technology Concept". FHI is setting up this special website with a view to increasing customers' understanding of the philosophy underpinning this unique technology exhibit.

oh man, i'm gonna be the biggest schoolyard bully if even the subaru version is RWD. yeah, that's a threat, you'll be fine.

lol. :)

EDIT: i just realized i didn't say THANKS for the post. thank you! this is exciting. good find.

cyde01 02-22-2011 02:41 AM

wow does that even count as a tease? you can't really see anything of the car. although from what little i can tell i think i like the ft-86 and ft-86 ii better. can anyone tell if the engine in the engine bay is the FB series or EJ?

70NYD 02-22-2011 02:55 AM

Very nice find :D
I wonder how long before one of the troll web "magazines" that have provided us with so much "reliable" information finds this out and posts it :p

Not much to see, but you do see at the edge of the shot a character line crease. Wheel arch is less aggressive, the hood is a lot less aggressively raked and is kind of upright for the headlight/grill.

Best Car will probably run with it and make a wild speculatory rendering =D

70NYD 02-22-2011 03:02 AM

oh and look at that this puts a complete pile of elephant crap over all the AWD rumors!
HA

my bet is to look for those very similar hood lines (in respect to the height of the ground) on the ft86mk2 concept as well :D
i also realised something, if the hood needs to be raised from the original concept, what about the bumper, cus you could very easily raise the hood by ending it earlier and following the same line to the front with a little more bumper and or grill

You know, I was staring at the site pic for long time, but I cannot tell the difference between FB or EJ... all the parts that makes it FB or EJ isn't showing, so I can't say for sure... but near the crank design looks more like FB design.

Yeah, I figured that.

hide in the corner & cry... lol jk

But seriously, I didn't expect this to be AWD. This car isn't going to have the name Impreza or 22B, so I'm not disappointed or anything. I'm interested to see how Subie ver gonna look like.

SUB-FT86 02-22-2011 07:21 AM

I just hope it's sexy. It could be my first favorite looking Subaru just like the Genesis coupe is my first favorite looking Hyundai. There is a first for everything I guess.

alexmotrix 02-22-2011 07:44 AM

it looks like it got the new plastic intake manifold from the FB engine, the pulleys don't reminder me anything from EJ so make your own impression about it

Infernal 02-22-2011 09:03 AM

The front arches look a little wider IMO, maybe subaru have widened the stance of their version

DantKR 02-22-2011 10:37 AM

Can't wait!

Good to hear. All bullcr*p magazines' speculations are all wrong.
I'm not a boxer fan, but does the engine sit that low?
