Driving shoes
 

Shoes make a big difference in my drives. I have some clodhoppers that just get in each other's way and the pedal work ain't close to being sharp.

I also have some Teva brand river shoes that are light weight, slender with pliable soles that are a delight. The uppers are mesh - to let water readily flow through - and that means they breathe well. The soles are real grippy so they make great contact with the pedals. I have used these on some 2000 mile trips and just picked up another pair.

I wondered what others are wearing?

Minimalist shoes are nice. I have a pair New Balance that I use for hiking/working out and they feel good driving in. They're like the five finger shoes without the separated toes...

Puma Speed Cats. Mostly light. Thin sole to provide lots of tactile feedback. Basically the same shoes as their Ferrari branded ones.

Either way, look for thin soles for good pedal feel, and the sole should wrap the around the heel so your feet don't slide around. Sliding is not a big issue if you have carpet, but if you've driven with a bare metal floorboard your feet will slide.

I have three pairs of Donkervoort shoes. They are at least 15 years old and getting rough but they still work great.

Brings back memories of college... For some context, I have few extra bones in my feet/ankles and have size 15 3E feet needing orthopedic inserts... anyways I drove a miata back then and would need to drive with skinny shoes (still use my red Piloti spyders for autox!) but they were uncomfortable to walk in without inserts so I would keep them in my trunk and swap shoes before/after driving. Sometimes I'd forget to put the shoes back in after clearing the trunk for whatever. It happened twice that I ended up needing to drive barefoot because I forgot the skinny shoes... with a passenger (date) with me... was funny to ask if it's alright if I take off my shoes and put them in her foot well :bonk:
