Detailers?

Looking to get my car detailed if anyone has a recommendation. Claybar, sealant, wax, etc. Want a protective coat for this winter since it's my daily driver and the paint is looking a little dull.

Or if anyone knows a of a good detail kit, I'll do it myself.

I'm located in Antioch

Thanks.

Meguiar's gold class wash, Meguiar's clay bar (white if the paint isn't too bad, blue if it's heavily contaminated), Meguiar's scratch-x for any scratches, Meguiar's deep crystal polish since you have wrb, and Collinite 476s wax (or 845iw if you like liquid).

Someone here does detailing though, I just forget who.

Just a little bit confused, new to the detailing thing. Is polish the same as sealant?

I guess I'll shoot down to autozone and check out these products out. I have amazon prime so might just order it, if it's cheaper lol.

Also anyone have feedback on Chemical Guys stuff?

Think of polish as, umm, a polish. It'll make your paint more vibrant. Only works for darker colors.

Here's what it did on my flint mica Yaris:

And my bro's Prius c:

My friend's Corolla:

Before polishing, you must thoroughly wash and clay bar the car first. I would then fix any scratches using Scratch-X, then polish, and then wax/seal.

Sealant is just a more durable wax. I believe the term came about back when cars didn't have a clear coat and "sealants" were used to seal the paint. The Collinite 476s lasts a long time and gives the best balance of natural gloss and vibrance, and long term durability.

I do everything by hand as well, so I apply using Meguiar's yellow foam pads.

If you want a durable, and super high gloss, you can use Meguiar's NXT Tech wax (since it's synthetic, it's pretty much a sealant). I personally did not like it. It made my paint too mirror like. It lasted a long time compared the Meguiar's Gold Class wax, but I just disliked how it muted the mica. To be fair, I never used polish when I tried the NXT wax.

Cars look good. Like I said, wanted more a protective coat for the winter while making the paint pop out more. Some of the videos I looked at on youtube said to use sealant and the a light coat of wax after it cures to get the best results.

That first picture with the Yaris looks amazing though. I guess I'll experiment lol

Oh, as for Chemical Guys, I've heard they're great stuff, but when I tried their quick detailer spray on my FR-S, it did not play well with the Collinite 476s. I noticed the next time I washed my car that the water wasn't beading and sheeting as much/well as it did before, and only a week has passed by between the two washes. Gave me the thought that CG formulated their products to work well only with their products.

My friend experienced the same thing, and I never told him about my experience until he told me about his. However, I think he's slowly switching all of his products to CG. I'll be sticking with my Meguiar's and Collinite combo.

I'd go with Collinite then. Gives off a very nice gloss/finish and lasts for months, even with just a single layer. It never made sense to me why one would apply a sealant, and then (carnauba) wax. I mean, I get it, the sealant will last long, and the carnauba will provide the deeper gloss, but that's just cumbersome since you really should wait at least an hour before applying a second coat, let alone a different type of wax. That's why I went with 476s since it's a hybrid and gets the job done well, even with just a single layer.

Just look at that reflection, yet the SWP/whiteout still looks rich.

However, 476s is kind of a PITA to use. You must use just the right amount, or else you'll be buffing it off for days. After some experimenting, the right amount would be a very thin layer applied on. Also, it may produce pseudo scratches/marring. That just means you need to use more micro fiber towels. :D

Yeah. . . It's like half a day before the sealant cures. I used to wax my mustang once a month and it look amazing, but it didn't last long. That's why I was looking into a sealant, but I'll take a look at that 476s.

Appreciate all the info :respekt:

No problem.

476s is a paste. If you like working with liquids better, look at their 845iw.

Specifically what kind of paint correction?

Still waiting for @Kamakanani0 to chime in. If you're a DIY type, and your paint is really messed up, try Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. I detailed a friend's FX16, and it brought back the original white. Left side is after, right side is before.

This was after a wash and clay bar session:

And after using Ultimate Compound:
