Idle dip but going FI

So I've ordered a KW kit and have recently noticed my car starting to do an idle dip, 700 down to 450 or so every time at idle.

After researching on here it's just an ecu reflash at the dealer but since I'll be setting up a custom tune soon I shouldn't have to fool with that since I will have a new flash on the ecu for the kw kit, correct? Also, I haven't popped any of the typical CELs associated with the idle dip.

I don't care to go and get the reflash but the closest Toyota dealer is 45 minutes away and will require an appointment at least a week out due to high volume in their service department.

If u r getting kw, u need to flash your ecu with their basemap or go to a tuner to get a custom tune, so unless u want to get rid of the dip before you install your kit then I would suggest leave it.

I am getting a tune from moto east. I guess what I was wondering was is there something that the dealer would do with the flash that the reflash from moto east wouldn't replace. I doubt it but I don't know if there is something restrictive in it

I think your tune will take care of it. But I wouldn't take the car to the dealer anymore... if they reflash your car with their oem flash then it may cause problems. The whole warranty thing might come up with them. And I just don't like the dealer doing work on my car.

What year is your car? I only say that because some of the earlier models had a problem with this and their was a recall. Some plate not lining up. Goi g FI with this particular issue will cause engine issues.

2013. Inn that case I will just go to the dealer prior to install to make sure all is good. I did just get serviced there a week ago but no mention of recalls then

it was for the cam sensor plates they needed to be re shimmed

Yup. That's the one. If your car is in that year with the recall get it serviced before going fj

Could I just get a raceseng can plate? Would that take care of it?

You should just get it taken care of under warranty. I believe it's a recall

mscamp02 11-08-2015 12:44 PM

Well I was just thinking that I would rather just replace it with a better option instead of just resealing or shimming. Especially since its only 75 dollars

I'll call them at 8 in the morning to make the appointment. Probably will call several in the area to see who can do it first.

EDIT: Just found out I can schedule appointments online so I have one set for the morning tomorrow. Thanks for the info.

Ended up just being the ECU reflash as my car was made after the manufacture # listed on the TSB for the shim and now the car is running perfect. To bad I'll only be on this flash for a few more days but it was definitely better to be safe then sorry.

Thanks for all the advice.
